Experimental "Fitzsimmons Power Rankings" Debut After NFL Week 1

Scott FitzsimmonsSep 19, 2010

The methods of ranking teams can sometimes be inaccurate to say the least. Often many rankings lists use to few statistics to account for enough points of a teams strengths and weaknesses. Therefore many resort to personal opinion to account for the rest. That also can be flawed because of potential biases, although it can be more accurate than a list without enough factors.

It is my intention to put together the ultimate list that analyzes the perfect mix of statistics, giving the proper weight of each stat, thus giving us the most accurate Power Ranking List ever!

I have started with what I feel is a very adequate combination, but I will be tweaking the factors ever so slightly so that we will soon be able to say the template is strong enough to just punch in the numbers, and find the perfect Power Rankings List.

Each team will receive a point value each week out of 100.

Here is the first list.

32.     29.9    Oakland Raiders(0-1)

There are a few things that will need to be adjusted, like ties. That will however change with larger numbers to work with.

In the end I do feel this is a pretty accurate list, and I will continue to shape and perfect it as the season continues.
