Fantasy Football Brothers Week 2: TE Ranks & Writeups
Week 2 is upon us, and the tight end studs have yet to show us the love. Stick to your guns and start those TE1 players, and we can look at possible busts in a few more weeks. Remember, it’s early, and although Marcedes Lewis had 2 TD’s last week, this will not happen every week! So, without further ado, here are the updated ranks and write-ups for Week 2!
WEEK 2 Rankings:
1) Dallas Clark – IND – TE, vs. New York Giants, Sun 8:20 PM
I expect Manning (Peyton that is..) to use his top gun TE Sunday as Indy looks to rebound from a Week 1 upset. Clark should see 8-10 targets for 75+ yards and a TD this week.
2) Antonio Gates – SDC – TE, vs. Jacksonville Jaguars, Sun 4:15 PM
Gates will continue to be the best option in San Diego’s passing attack, which will also lead to double teams (as it did in KC last week). Look for a nice game from Gates with a TD, but don’t expect a huge day, as he will be the center of attention for the Jags D.
3) Jermichael Finley – GRE – TE, vs. Buffalo Bills, Sun 1:00 PM
Finley will see an increase in targets this week (now that Grant is out) and he should have his way against the Bills D.
4) Visanthe Shiancoe – MIN – TE, vs. Miami Dolphins, Sun 1:00 PM
Shiancoe and Farve should once again have a nice day, but I expect AP to see most of the work for the Vikings this week.
5) Vernon Davis – SFO – TE, vs. New Orleans Saints, Mon 8:30 PM
Davis will have a tough matchup this week against the Saints. I expect the Saints focus to be on stopping Frank Gore, which should give Davis some love, but it will be a struggle.
6) Zach Miller – OAK – TE, vs. St. Louis Rams, Sun 4:05 PM
Zach is still working on his rapport with his new QB, and this should pay off with dividends eventually. He has a nice mathup this week, hence the higher rank, but it may be a bit premature.
7) Tony Gonzalez – ATL – TE, vs. Arizona Cardinals, Sun 1:00 PM
Gonzo will continue to put up his 6 catches for 55yds week in and week out, but will he find the endzone? I expect that he may be blocking for Mr. Turner this week in the red zone, but his average numbers should be enough to warrant a fantasy start.
8) Brent Celek – PHI – TE, at Detroit Lions, Sun 1:00 PM
I like Celek this week against the Lions. With Vick getting the start, I believe that his big TE will be a nice check down option that he will go to early and often. (Remember the days in Atlanta with Alge Crumpler!) The only downfall is that Vick may decide to run, or use McCoy! We’ll see, but I think Celek will have a good week.
9) Chris Cooley – WAS – TE, vs. Houston Texans, Sun 4:15 PM
Cooley had a great week 1, showing that he can work well with McNabb. I expect this to continue, but a solid Houston D will be putting a lot more pressure on Donovan which may limit Cooley’s production.
10) Heath Miller – PIT – TE, at Tennessee Titans, Sun 1:00 PM
Last year, Heath blew up against the Titans thanks to Big Ben. This year we could see some nice numbers here from Miller, but it will be up to Dixon to deliver the rock. I’m 50-50 on this one, but I like the upside, hence the nice ranking!
11) Jason Witten – DAL – TE, vs. Chicago Bears, Sun 1:00 PM
Witten is falling off the radar, and a tough Bears D doesn’t help his cause this week. I remain cautiously optimistic, but I don’t feel the love from Romo that I once did. (As a fantasy owner myself I will be starting Witten and hoping for a miracle!)
12) Kellen Winslow – TAM – TE, at Carolina Panthers, Sun 1:00 PM
Kellen will be on the road this week and he faces a decent Carolina D. He is coming off a 4 reception week for 32yds, and I expect about the same from him this week, but the odds are much better for him to get a TD this week.
13) Greg Olsen – CHI – TE, at Dallas Cowboys, Sun 1:00 PM
Although I was skeptical about his role in Mike Martz’s system, he did get 4 targets for 37yds last week. The Cowboys are usually a good matchup for TE’s historically, so I gave Olsen a bump this week.
14) Jermaine Gresham – CIN – TE, vs. Baltimore Ravens, Sun 1:00 PM
Gresham had a fantastic Week 1 against the Pats, but this week will be a different story. The Ravens D should bring the pain to Carlson Palmer and the Cinci offense this week, and Gresham should be held in check. Look for 4 receptions for 35yds from the Big guy.
15) Owen Daniels – HOU – TE, at Washington Redskins, Sun 4:15 PM
Although he was limited to 1 catch for 9yds last week, I expect much better numbers this week for OD. Washington should be focused on stopping Arian Foster, which will enable Schaub to go to the air and hopefully find Daniels!
16) John Carlson – SEA – TE, at Denver Broncos, Sun 4:05 PM
17) Dustin Keller – NYJ – TE, vs. New England Patriots, Sun 4:15 PM
18) Kevin Boss – NYG – TE, at Indianapolis Colts, Sun 8:20 PM
19) Todd Heap – BAL – TE, at Cincinnati Bengals, Sun 1:00 PM
20) Marcedes Lewis – JAC – TE, at San Diego Chargers, Sun 4:15 PM
21) Jeremy Shockey – NOR – TE, at San Francisco 49ers, Mon 8:30 PM
22) Benjamin Watson – CLE – TE, vs. Kansas City Chiefs, Sun 1:00 PM
23) Evan Moore – CLE – TE, vs. Kansas City Chiefs, Sun 1:00 PM
24) Tony Moeaki – KAN – TE, at Cleveland Browns, Sun 1:00 PM
25) Anthony Fasano – MIA – TE, at Minnesota Vikings, Sun 1:00 PM
26) Rob Gronkowski – NEP – TE, at New York Jets, Sun 4:15 PM
27) Tony Scheffler – DET – TE, vs. Philadelphia Eagles, Sun 1:00 PM
28) Shawn Nelson – BUF – TE, at Green Bay Packers, Sun 1:00 PM
29) Bo Scaife – TEN – TE, vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, Sun 1:00 PM
30) Billy Bajema – STL – TE, at Oakland Raiders, Sun 4:05 PM
31) David Thomas – NOR – TE, at San Francisco 49ers, Mon 8:30 PM
32) Fred Davis – WAS – TE, vs. Houston Texans, Sun 4:15 PM
33) Daniel Graham – DEN – TE, vs. Seattle Seahawks, Sun 4:05 PM
34) Daniel Fells – STL – TE, at Oakland Raiders, Sun 4:05 PM
35) Aaron Hernandez – NEP – TE, at New York Jets, Sun 4:15 PM
