Pat Burns Dead At 58...Or...Not...

Cory DuceySep 17, 2010

Rumors tend to bite people right in the...well you know where.  This is the latest blunder in mainstream media just trying to get the first word out.  When Pat Burns was shopping in a grocery store, visualizing the pork chops he was going to have for dinner, you can imagine to his surprise to find that he died.

Needless to say, this was a shock to him, but can you imagine the shock and horror that his friends and family went through hearing of this if he wasn't around.

I know the man is dying of terminal cancer, but for the love of Pete.  Please confirm and wait until the man is actually left us instead of trying to be the scoop of such sad tidings. I mean at that point, who really cares who gets the news out there about this?

It's this kind of competitiveness that really shames the art of sports reporting that gets under my craw and want to ask that person(s) that started this mess of a snowball "Just what in the heck were you thinking??!?  Where's your source?  What were THEY thinking?"

Apparently, The Toronto Star listed Cliff Fletcher, the Maple leafs Senior Executive and close friend to Burns, as the source of the wildfire that was spread out to the media world. To make things worse, he found out through a tweet and an Ottawa radio report.  See above paragraph.

Fletcher later issue a written apology:

“I extend my deepest apologies to Pat Burns and his family. Unfortunately, I was misinformed by a friend earlier today and my public comments were completely inaccurate. Myself, and the entire hockey community I’m sure, will continue to wish all the best for Pat and we will keep him in our thoughts.”

At any rate, Burns called TSN's Bob McKenzie. "I come to Quebec to spend some time with my family and they say I'm dead. I'm not dead, far f------ from it. They've had me dead since June."

Well-put, Pat!  I pray for you and other cancer patients whether they are suffering it, recovering from it, or survived it.

May you live long in our hearts and in our memories.  Of course, i will save that for the day when he ACTUALLY passes away and I, for one, hope that if he isn't suffering, that day will not be here for quite sometime.

God Bless, Pat.  You ARE a man among men.
