Indianapolis Colts Have Giant Problem On Sunday Night Football

James BrownSep 17, 2010

This Sunday, the NFL displays its version or sibling rivalry as Eli Manning and the New York Giants travel to Indianapolis to take on his brother Peyton Manning and the Colts. BetMania has posted the odds for this game and the Colts are listed as 5.5 point favorites with the total set at 48.

The Colts will try to get their game straightened out after a humbling loss to the Texans in Week 1. The Colts run defense disappeared and allowed rookie Arian Foster to run all over them. They allowed over 270 yards on the ground and will have to improve on that number if they hope on stopping the Giants' rushing attack.

Quarterback Peyton Manning had big numbers, but he would surely trade those numbers for a victory. His pass protection let him down all day long in the first week. The Texans' pass rush hurried him throughout the game, knocked him to the ground 10 times, and sacked him twice. Granted, the Colts were attempting to pass most of the game in an attempt to catch up, but the pass protection still needs work.

The Giants emerged victorious in their first game against the Carolina Panthers. The offense looked good on the ground and through the air, as wide receiver Hakeem Nicks emerged as a scoring threat. Nicks found the end zone three times as he seemed to have instant chemistry with quarterback Eli Manning. The offense was fueled by a top-notch performance on defense.

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell unveiled his personal touches on defense and the Giants excelled in seemingly every area. The defense recorded five turnovers and four sacks as they dominated the second half of the game and knocked out starting quarterback Matt Moore. The Giants' defense will get a true test this weekend against arguably the best quarterback in the game today.

The Colts have reason to be concerned coming into this game. They lost defensive superstar Bob Sanders to injury once again and will need all the help they can get on defense. The Giants have excelled on the road against the spread as they are 23-8 ATS in their last 31 road games. They are also 19-7 ATS in their last 26 games following a win and Eli will be anxious to show his big brother his team is for real.

The Colts will be in every game as long as they have Peyton Manning but they have trouble protecting him. He will be hurried and harassed all night by the Giants and he may get big numbers again but does not mean he will get a “W.” The Giants will be able to control the ball by controlling the clock with the run game and mixing in the pass. The Colts are 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a loss and will have trouble in this game and start the season at 0-2.

Final: Giants 20, Colts 17
