Fantasy Football Week 2 Rankings: Top 15 Defenses

Let’s take a look at how the defenses rank for Week 2.

1. Philadelphia Eagles - at Detroit
2. Dallas Cowboys - vs. Chicago
3. Green Bay Packers - vs. Buffalo
4. San Diego Chargers - vs. Jacksonville
5. Denver Broncos - vs. Seattle
6. Minnesota Vikings - vs. Miami
7. New England Patriots - at New York Jets
8. New York Jets - vs. New England
9. Oakland Raiders - vs. St. Louis
10. Tennessee Titans - vs. Pittsburgh
11. Carolina Panthers - vs. Tampa Bay
12. Atlanta Falcons - vs. Arizona
13. New Orleans Saints - at San Francisco
14. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - at Carolina
15. Baltimore Ravens - at Cincinnati

Thoughts

• I know how good the Jets defense is, but do you actually trust them against the Patriots, especially with Tom Brady looking like the player of old?  Throw in a hamstring injury to Darrelle Revis (though currently being called minor) and the loss of Kris Jenkins for the season, and the once vaunted Jets defense has a few cracks in the armor.  I can’t downgrade them too far, but Revis’ injury could be a huge factor in things.

• The Cowboys secondary has the ability to pick-off passes and take it to the house.  Jay Cutler has always been susceptible to interceptions (he had 20 on the road in 2009 vs. six at home) and Mike Martz’ system promotes taking some chances.  The end result?  There’s certainly the opportunity for Dallas to make some waves this week.

• The strength of the Minnesota Vikings defense is their ability to stop the run.  The strength of the Miami Dolphins offense is their ability to run the ball.  Which will win out?  It certainly will be intriguing, but I have to trust the Vikings defense in this one.

• Without Ben Roethlisberger, the Steelers offense just doesn’t impose much fear, does it?

• Matt Stafford is out of action for Week 2.  The Lions offense was not that imposing before hand, but with Shaun Hill at QB, they are even less threatening.

• The Giants and Colts generally have usable defenses, but it easily could turn into a shootout.  You’d be better off finding other options for this week.
