Celebrity Athletes: Tom Brady to Grace Cover of S.I. for 12th Time

Being featured on a Sports Illustrated cover is no small feat, yet green celebrity athlete Tom Brady seems to find the Sports Illustrated cover on a regular basis. Always the gentleman and very giving of his time to charity causes, the relationship between Tom Brady and Sports Illustrated cover issues is a natural fit.

SETTING A STANDARD FOR FELLOW CELEBRITY ATHLETES TO FOLLOW ON SPORTS ILLUSTRATED

New England Patriots star quarterback and green celebrity athlete Tom Brady will be featured on this week’s cover of Sports Illustrated, marking the 12th time he has achieved that feat, tying Brady with his idol, Joe Montana, for most covers all-time for football players on Sports Illustrated.

Brady, who first appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 2002, watched Joe Montana while growing up in Northern California. Brady has three Super Bowl victories to his credit, one short of his idol Montana.

This week’s issue of Sports Illustrated hits newsstands today, and Brady’s teammate and wide receiver Randy Moss is also featured on the Sports Illustrated cover.

While much talk has surrounded Brady’s recent record contract signed last week, Brady himself downplayed that event in his usual style, stating that the overall success of the New England Patriots was dependent upon each of the 53 players on the squad.

Brady has attained celebrity athlete status with his play on the field and with his charity work as a green celebrity. Brady is a proud supporter of the charity Best Buddies International.This is a charity designed to provide integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Brady also partners with the New England Patriots on several charitable endeavors. He visits to several local children’s hospitals in the Boston area. He and his wife, Gisele Bundchen, also served Thanksgiving dinners to volunteers of Goodwill Industries International in 2008.

Through all his Sports Illustrated covers and his marriage to Gisele Bundchen (a green celebrity super model and new green mom), he remains self-effacing and true to his small-town roots.

Brady and the Patriots play their divisional rivals, the New York Jets, this Sunday in New York.
