NHL Today (9/15): Ducks, Bruins, Backes, Staal, Belanger, and More
Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks have finally re-signed their prized winger, Bobby Ryan. Is the front office done for now? Doubtful as reports are saying that the Ducks might look to add a veteran defenseman soon, namely Paul Mara. It could be a great fit and a cheap signing. The Ducks need a veteran defenseman and Mara needs a job. Looks like a nice fit to say the least.

Draft Lottery Winners and Losers
More news is coming out on who might be moved to accommodate Marco Sturm's contract when he comes back from LTIR later this year. Sources are saying that most likely a veteran forward will be moved. All signs point to Michael Ryder and that is not surprising as he has been a disappointing acquisition for the Bruins so far.
David Backes
Reports are saying that David Backes is going to make the move to wing. I know that Backes has had experience as both a wing and a center, but could this affect his value come next summer? He could be in for a huge payday.
Marc Staal
Trade rumors won't include his name anymore. Marc Staal has finally re-signed with the New York Rangers for a deal worth $19.875 million over five years.
Eric Belanger
The center has finally found a team in the Phoenix Coyotes, but what was the hold up? Apparently, the Washington Capitals did in fact agree to terms with Belanger, but never went through with actually signing him. Belanger is clearly not happy with how the Capitals treated him and may be able to sue.
Signings Around the League:
- Eric Belanger (PHX)- $750,00 (1 Year)
- Brian McGrattan (BOS)- INVITE
- Bobby Ryan (ANA)- $25.5 million (5 Years)
- Marc Staal (NYR) - $19.875 million (5 Years)
