"The Latin Snake" Sergio Mora Will Defeat "Sugar" Shane Mosley

Former WBA welterweight super champion "Sugar" Shane Mosley will fight tough Mexican scrapper "The Latin Snake" Sergio Mora Saturday night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Mosley (46-6-0-1, 39 KOs), a past titlist in three weight divisions, was outclassed in a unanimous decision loss against "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) in his last matchup in May.

Mora (22-1-1, 6 KOs) is a solid boxer who was scheduled to battle Kelly Pavlik (36-2, 32 KOs) in June 2009 before injuries derailed the contest.
 
Mora's signature victory transpired in June 2008 when he trumped the late Vernon Forrest by majority decision to capture the WBC light middleweight title at the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut.
 
Conversely, "The Latin Snake's" lone loss came via unanimous decision in his rematch against Forrest (41-3-0-1, 29 KOs) three months later at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
 
As the adage goes, styles make fights and Mora and Forrest were virtually interchangeable pugilists in the squared circle.
 
Forrest himself twice managed to defeat Mosley on the scorecards within a span of six months in 2002.

As noted, Mora is indeed a skilled prizefighter who knows how to carry himself in the ring. Unfortunately, his feathery punches couldn't hurt Glass Joe.

Nevertheless, Mora is only 29 years old, and Mosley is 39 years old and off the juice.

In his pharmaceutical-enhanced prime, Mosley was a far superior boxer than Mora will ever be.

“Mosley has quick hands and he will press the fight,” said Roger “Pitt” Perron, 73, a long-time boxing trainer from Brockton who now works with Mike and Rich Cappiello at their gym, Cappiello Brothers Boxing and Training. “It will be interesting to see how he reacts to his loss to Mayweather.”

Still, the past is the past and Mora will emerge victorious over Mosley this weekend.
