New Orleans Saints RB Reggie Bush Forfeits Heisman Trophy Honor
Reggie Bush has decided to give back his Heisman Trophy.
Although the Heisman Trust has not asked for it back, Mr. Bush—the former USC running back—has announced he will forfeit the honor.
What a mature and thoughtful thing to do for himself, his team and the many fans that look up to him.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
I, for one, am proud to say that he is part of my team—the New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Championship team.
That is what champions do: They step up and move forward. Unlike other current athletes who shrink their responsibility to the younger generation, Bush gets that he is a role model. He also understands that it’s a chance to grow.
He has even committed himself to working with the Trust so that such mistakes do not occur again.
Although I do not agree with the accepting of gifts from agents, since that is the rule, I do believe that those same agents hold responsibility for their actions.
I also believe that the stipend these students receive needs to be revisited. These student-athletes are not allowed to work while on scholarship, therefore making the temptation to accept gifts from agents and alumni even greater.
How refreshing to see someone actually give back the honor in order to help others in the long run.
Here is part of his statement made earlier:
“I would like to begin in this effort by turning a negative situation into a positive one by working with the Trustees to establish an educational program which will assist student-athletes and their families to avoid some of the mistakes that I made.
“I am determined to view this event as an opportunity to help others and to advance the values and the mission of the Heisman Trophy Trust.
“I will forever appreciate the honor bestowed upon me as a winner of the Heisman. While this decision is heart-breaking, I find solace in knowing that the award was made possible by the support and love of so many.
“The persistent media speculation regarding allegations dating back to my years at USC has been both painful and distracting. In no way should the storm around these allegations reflect in any way on the dignity of this award, nor any other institutions or individuals. Nor should it distract from the outstanding performances and hard-earned achievements either in the past, present or future. For the rest of my days, I will continue to strive to demonstrate through my actions and words that I was deserving of the confidence placed in me by the Heisman Trophy Trust.”
It is no secret that the Saints and their fans share a very special bond. Once again his team, his city and his fans will be galvanized as they move forward to bigger and better things.
Thank you, Reggie, for what you have done for our city—I look forward to what you take on next.
