NFL Week 2 Predictions: New York Jets Fall To 0-2 and 10 More Bold Locks
As we get into the swing of things in the NFL season, it's time to lay down more locks for Week 2, especially concerning the big game this week as the New York Jets play host to the Patriots.
There's plenty of big games on the schedule and plenty of close games in order to make a bold prediction. What makes these predictions fun is the fact that we don't really have a grasp on a lot of teams.
Are these teams as good as they looked last week, or are they one-hit wonders that will turn out to be frauds in the end?
There's only one way to find out but until there here are 10 sure fire locks for Week 2 of the NFL schedule.
No. 11: Pack Win Without Grant
1 of 11
No Ryan Grant. No problem for Green Bay this week.
The Packers are taking on Buffalo this week, and this is going to be a win going way for Green Bay.
I don't know why Chan Gailey is coaching a pro football team at this point, but it's going to end poorly, just like every Bills season since the turn of the century.
Buffalo doesn't even know the rules well enough to try to take a safety and get the ball back on an onsides punt. Only the Bills would try an onsides punt.
The Bills are a horrible team, and Aaron Rodgers is going to rip them to shreds.
Sorry, Bills fans.
No. 10: Vick Leads Eagles to Win
2 of 11
Let's be honest, with the NFL's new focus on concussions and Kolb's inability to practice until Friday, it's going to be Michael Vick's team on Sunday afternoon.
Vick brought life to an otherwise lifeless Eagles offense and he'll be taking on the Detroit Lions, who will be without Matthew Stafford, who separated his shoulder in the loss to the Bears this past week.
This will put the Lions at an extreme disadvantage, as they will have to rely on the unspectacular talents of Shawn Hill to get the job done.
Look for Vick to find a lot of room to run as the Eagles get on the board with a W.
No. 9: Cowboys Bounce Back
3 of 11
Sunday night was an ugly loss for the Cowboys. They killed themselves with penalties, including on the final play which was the game-winning touchdown.
However, Dallas will regroup and get a win against Chicago this Sunday.
The Cowboys defense will do what the Lions couldn't and force Jay Cutler into mistakes that will flip the field in Dallas' favor.
If the Cowboys can get Marc Colombo back, it will bolster the offensive line and give Tony Romo plenty of time to find Miles Austin and Co. down the field.
I think this will be a great bounce-back week for Dallas and restore some faith in their fans hearts about the future of the team.
No. 8: Chiefs Go To 2-0
4 of 11
If I told you that the Chiefs would start the season 2-0, you probably would have laughed me out of the room.
Now, after their upset of the Chargers last night, the Chiefs looked poised to do just that.
Kansas City will take on Cleveland this week and if they could frustrate Philip Rivers, just think of what they'll do to Jake Delhomme.
Delhomme gave two away to Tampa Bay and he's going to give a couple away this week because that's who he is. He's an implosion waiting to happen and the Chiefs are going to take advantage.
Romeo Crennel is going to have his guys ready to go, and Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones are going to run up and down on the Browns.
Just another day in the life of Browns fans. Cleveland can't catch a break.
No. 7: Bradford Gets His First Win
5 of 11
There is no better medicine for a rookie quarterback than facing the Oakland Raiders.
After being hyped as a possible dark horse, the Raiders promptly went out and got eviscerated by the Titans on Sunday.
They couldn't protect Jason Campbell and they couldn't stop Chris Johnson or Vince Young. It got ugly in a hurry and the Raiders were out of the game quickly.
The Rams will be able to pound the rock with Steven Jackson, and it's going to open up some things for Sam Bradford in the passing game.
As long as he limits the turnovers, he's going to be in a great position to win the game.
I like the Rams by at least 10 points this weekend. Just a feeling.
No. 6: Cardinals Beat Falcons
6 of 11
Despite losing Kurt Warner, the Cardinals are coming out of the gate 2-0.
Derek Anderson was surprisingly effective in his first start and he's got weapons to throw to, which makes it easier opposed to his time in Cleveland when he pretty much had Joe Six Pack to throw to as targets. Anderson will find targets against Atlanta.
If Dennis Dixon was able to make plays, Anderson will, especially with that offense.
I don't trust Matt Ryan to get the job done for the Falcons and I think Arizona will make enough plays on defense to get the win and move to 2-0.
Arizona leading the NFC West after two weeks would be a compelling story.
No. 5: Pete Carroll Stays Undefeated As 'Hawks Coach
7 of 11
The Seahawks coming out of the gate and beating the 49ers into the dirt was the biggest surprise of week one. I won't lie, I expected Seattle to win two games all year, and now I have them 2-0 out of the gate.
I'm shocked at how well they played, especially in the passing game, but Denver got ripped apart by David Garrard and I see Matt Hasselbeck doing the same this week.
An 0-2 start is going to get people questions Josh McDaniels' job security into question.
After running Brandon Marshall out of town and some of the other personnel decisions he's made, it's only natural and he could be working his way out of town while trying to lay down the law.
No. 4: Vikings Get To .500
8 of 11
While the Vikings looked just a step off in the season opener against New Orleans but almost walked away with the victory regardless.
There's too much talent on this Vikings team not to win sooner rather than later, especially in the home opener against Miami.
The Dolphins won but didn't get any style points winning a five point game against the Bills.
If Miami struggled on the road against Buffalo, heading to Minnesota won't really help those matters.
I think the Vikings have had time to click on the practice field and we'll see that on Sunday. I think Peterson gets two touchdowns and so will Favre as the Vikings win with comfort.
No. 3: CJ2K Gets 100 in Win
9 of 11
Chris Johnson is three 100-yard games away from setting the record for most consecutive 100-yard games in NFL history and he'll get a step closer to that record this week against the Steelers.
Johnson is an electric player and while Pittsburgh stuffed Michael Turner last week, he's no Chris Johnson and he's going to break at least one big run.
No matter how good a job you do, with Vince Young's threat of running, you can't just key on on Johnson. It's made the Titans a more offensive threat and will open it up for Johnson.
Helping will be the fact that with Max Starks out, the Titans defensive line will get pressure on Dennis Dixon and the Steelers' defense will be out on the field a long time as Tennessee wears them down.
No. 2: Ravens Take Control Of The North
10 of 11
After a big win over the Jets last night the Ravens are going to keep on rolling this week against the Bengals.
Cedric Benson looked brutal last Sunday, and he's not going to have better luck against a stout Ravens defense that completely shut down the Jets this week.
While Cincy has more weapons in the passing game, they're going to force turnovers from Carson Palmer and will make at least one big defensive play that will shorten the field.
Baltimore has too many weapons on offense for the Bengals to deal with and Joe Flacco will make throws downfield like he did by the end of the game last night.
No. 1: Patriots Down The Jets
11 of 11
Tom Brady sent a message to his team when he said he hated the Jets.
Rex Ryan made Bill Belichick a clear target when he was hired by New York and now New England has taken notice after last year.
There's been a war of words between the two teams and the Patriots are going to be fired up to let everyone know that they aren't dead yet and that the rush to crown the Jets was premature.
Ryan has made his team a target and now he and his team is going to be exposed at the 9-7 team they were last year, not the worldbeaters that people thought they were heading into this season.
If you don't trust your quarterback to make plays, then you're not going to beat the Patriots.
New England is highly motivated and the Jets are coming off a short week. I love the Pats to win this week.
