NFL Week 2 Picks: Top Underdogs Who Could Win Outright
It's time to get ready for Week 2 in the NFL, and this week will be just as exciting as Week 1 (Ravens vs. Jets was awesome!).
With huge upsets throughout Week 1 (Steelers over Falcons, Chiefs over Chargers, Texans over Colts, etc.), Week 2 could be any team's time to shine.
Here, we'll go through all of the games in Week 2 and rank them based on upset potential.
Who are the underdogs that have a shot at bringing down the favorites?
Read on to find out!
16. New Orleans Saints at San Francisco 49ers
1 of 16
The New Orleans Saints will travel to San Francisco for Monday Night Football on Sept. 20 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
Who is Favored?: Saints
Upset Possibility 1 (Not Happening): After the 49ers' pitiful performance against the Seattle Seahawks, it is really hard to gain enough confidence in the team to predict an upset over the reigning Super Bowl champions.
Predicted Score: Saints 35, 49ers 17
15. Buffalo Bills at Green Bay Packers
2 of 16
The Buffalo Bills will take on the Green Bay Packers at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Packers
Upset Possibility 1 (No Way): The Bills couldn't pull it out against the Dolphins, and they certainly won't do it against the Packers. Even with the absence of Ryan Grant, the Packers will dominate this football game.
Predicted Final Score: Bills 10, Packers 31
14. Miami Dolphins at Minnesota Vikings
3 of 16
The Dolphins will play the Vikings at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Vikings
Upset Possibility 1 (Don't bet on it): Even though the Vikings suffered a loss at the hands of the Saints. Miami is not New Orleans, and Minnesota will be hungry for a win.
A loss to the team that won the Super Bowl is expected. Not an embarrassment. I expect this game to be a huge blowout.
Predicted Final Score: Dolphins 13, Vikings 38
13. Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Carolina Panthers
4 of 16
Tampa Bay will play Carolina at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Panthers
Upset Possibility 2 (Very Low): Tampa Bay beat the Cleveland Browns. Try to contain your excitement.
Even with a questionable quarterback situation, I still think the Panthers will get the win.
Predicted Final Score: Buccaneers 10, Panthers 21
12. Jacksonville Jaguars at San Diego Chargers
5 of 16
The Jags will play the Chargers at 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Chargers
Upset Possibility 3 (Low): The Bolts lost to the Kansas City Chiefs last night, but I am convinced that San Diego will still make a playoff run. And they'll start with Jacksonville.
Chargers. At home. Over Jacksonville.
Predicted Final Score: Jaguars 21, Chargers 27
11. Chicago Bears at Dallas Cowboys
6 of 16
The Bears will play the Cowboys at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Cowboys
Upset Possibility 3 (Low): Dallas fell to Washington, and NFL officials seem to like the Bears, but the Cowboys will not want to lose their first home game.
I expect the Dallas defensive line to take out some aggression on the Bears.
Predicted Final Score: Bears 9, Cowboys 24
10. Houston Texans at Washington Redskins
7 of 16
The Texans will play the Redskins at 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Texans
Upset Possibility 4 (Maybe): Both teams are coming off impressive wins, but the Texans are the dominant team.
However, I made the mistake of underestimating the Redskins (or perhaps overestimating the Cowboys) last week, so I think they have a shot. I still pick the Texans with surprise breakout Arian Foster.
Predicted Final Score: Texans 34, Redskins 21
9. Kansas City Chiefs at Cleveland Browns
8 of 16
The Browns will host the Chiefs at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Browns
Upset Possibility 5 (Could go either way): The Browns had a tough loss to the Buccaneers in Week 1, and the Chiefs shocked us all when they beat up on the Chargers.
I think that this game could go to either team, but I'll pick the Browns at home.
Predicted Final Score: Chiefs 17, Browns 24
8. Baltimore Ravens at Cincinnati Bengals
9 of 16
The Ravens will take on the Bengals at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Ravens
Upset Possibility 6 (Definite Possibility): The Ravens had an impressive win last night when they shut down the Jets, but the Bengals have a significantly better offense than what Mark Sanchez and Co. have to offer.
On the other side of the ball, the Bengals' defense is not as that of the Jets, so it will be interesting to see how Cincinnati handles Joe Flacco.
This will be a higher-scoring game than last night, but I still pick the Ravens to win.
Predicted Final Score: Ravens 35, Bengals 24
7. Philadelphia Eagles at Detroit Lions
10 of 16
The Lions will host the Eagles at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored: Eagles
Upset Possibility 7 (Definite Possibility): The Lions suffered a devastating "loss" to the Chicago Bears last weekend, and I'm willing to give them another shot.
Quarterback questions surround both teams, but I'm not ready to hand the reins over to Michael Vick just yet. I'll pick the Lions at home over the injured Eagles.
Predicted Final Score: Eagles 21, Lions 24
6. Arizona Cardinals at Atlanta Falcons
11 of 16
The Arizona Cardinals will take on the Atlanta Falcons at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Falcons
Upset Possibility 7 (Definite Possibility): The Falcons lost to the Steelers in Week 1, and the Cardinals won a close game against the Rams.
What can I say? I have a soft spot for Derek Anderson. This is a long shot, but I'm picking the Cardinals.
Predicted Final Score: Cardinals 24, Falcons 17
5. New York Giants at Indianapolis Colts
12 of 16
The Giants will take on the Colts at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Colts
Upset Possibility 7 (Definite Possibility): You have to love it when the Mannings meet on the gridiron, but I expect this game to be better for Eli than his game against the Colts in 2006.
However, I don't think the Colts will lose two in a row, and little bro will get schooled again.
Predicted Final Score: Giants 17, Colts 27
4. New England Patriots at New York Jets
13 of 16
The Patriots will visit the Jets at 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Patriots
Upset Possibility 8 (Very Likely): The Jets have quite a bit of hype to live up to, and last night's loss to the Ravens was not a good start.
New York's defense looked great, but they need too much work on offense.
It's too bad that the Jets have to play two of their hardest games at the beginning of the season before Mark Sanchez has a chance to organize his Pokemon cards, but I'm giving this one to the Patriots.
Predicted Final Score: Patriots 17, Jets 13
3. St. Louis Rams at Oakland Raiders
14 of 16
The Rams will play the Raiders at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Oakland
Upset Possibility 9 (It will happen): Last week, I was all about Oakland, but I lost my trust in the team after they were blown out by the Titans.
Sorry, Raider Nation. I just can't pick Oakland to win this game.
Predicted Final Score: Rams 31, Raiders 21
2. Seattle Seahawks at Denver Broncos
15 of 16
The Seahawks will take on the Broncos at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Broncos
Upset Possibility 9 (It will happen): I'll admit it. I'm jumping on the Seahawks bandwagon. After an impressive win over the 49ers, I'm picking Seattle to use that momentum to get another victory over the Broncos.
Predicted Final Score: Seahawks 21, Broncos 17
1. Pittsburgh Steelers at Tennessee Titans
16 of 16
My Steelers will take on the Titans at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday, Sept. 19.
Who is Favored?: Titans
Upset Possibility 9 (It will happen): The Steelers pulled off a win over the Atlanta Falcons, and their rush defense is one of the best in the league.
I'm not exactly sure why the Titans are favored in this game because I expect Pittsburgh to get the win. No problem.
Predicted Final Score: Steelers 24, Titans 17
