WWE: Looking at The Possible Departure Of Chris Jericho
Rumours that Chris Jericho is leaving WWE have been rife throughout the Internet wrestling community. I take a look at Jericho's possible departure and what will happen without Jericho in WWE.
Chris Jericho Leaving WWE?
It has been reported by various wrestling 'news' outlets that Chris Jericho's contract with World Wrestling Entertainment is coming to an end soon. Not only that, but rumor has it that Jericho may be planning to pack up his things and leave the company when said contract ends.
No one but Jericho himself is quite sure what he has planned.
Art Imitating Life:
For the last several weeks, with rumours abuzz on the 'net, WWE's Creative team has, coincidentally or otherwise, decided to add this twist into the storylines on RAW.
A couple of weeks back, Jericho told the WWE Universe that he would leave the company for good if he lost at Night of Champions. However, last week, Jericho lost to John Morrison thus being pulled from the WWE Title Six-Pack Challenge at the pay-per-view. This has only served to perpetuate speculation on Jericho's career future.
A Huge Loss:
If Chris Jericho does decide it's time to go (which there's no concrete evidence to support), it would be a huge loss for WWE.
The company is already having enough trouble finding the 'total package' when it comes to new talent. But losing Jericho would be a huge blow. Jericho is a worldwide superstar - including with his band Fozzy and as a WWE wrestler. On the microphone and inside the ring, Jericho is considered one of the all-time greats.
Bulletproof:
At this point in Chris Jericho's career, he's bulletproof. He can lose one week, come back the next and win the WWE Championship and fans wouldn't even flinch.
This makes him a very valuable asset to the company as they continue to try and build the next generation of WWE Superstars such as The Nexus, Sheamus and others. It has been proven time and again that Chris Jericho can have a match with a broomstick and make it look good. This is a guy WWE should be wanting to keep at any cost.
A Personal Decision:
Of course, this is Chris Jericho's decision.
If he feels it's time to take a step back from wrestling and do some less all-consuming projects than he's totally within his rights to do so. WWE, along with all wrestling fans, should respect Jericho's decision either way.
Jericho has a family he wants to spend time with, he still has his band Fozzy, and I'm sure he has plenty more entertaining stories to tell in any future books he might want to write.
It's all too often that wrestlers, especially in WWE, are afraid to take time away for fear of losing their spot in the pecking order. I'm glad Jericho doesn't feel that is an issue to him, and I hope he let's others know that they do have a choice.
What's Next?
Going purely on the assumption Jericho does leave, what would be next for WWE? Well, as the old saying goes, “the show must go on”.
The show can't and won't stop without Jericho. WWE will continue to mould the next generation of athlete, but it probably won't be as easy as it could be with Jericho's star power and all-round ability. But, it certainly won't be impossible for WWE if Jericho isn't there.
The wrestling business is bigger than any one individual, and in WWE, the brand is bigger than any superstar.
Conclusion:
It'll be sad to see Chris go, but I will totally support and respect his decision - whatever that may be. We'll all have to wait and see what he does next.
