Dear WWE: It's Time To Change the WWE Title Design

The Doctor Chris MuellerSep 13, 2010

The WWE Championship has gone through many different phases throughout its long and storied history. The belt has had many designs over the years, and while some are better than others, no one can deny that the belt has always represented greatness among wrestlers.

Since John Cena won his first WWE Championship the WWE has been using the spinner belt design. The Spinner belt was originally supposed to match John Cena's image of a rapper.

Now the belt doesn't even spin anymore, and it looks kind of gawdy and over the top. A lot of people think that WWE won't get rid of the belt anytime soon because it sells really well.

The fact is that all incarnations of the belt have sold well in replica form, so its not an excuse to keep this design.

When I first began watching wrestling the WWE Championship was using the Winged Eagle design which was worn by guys like Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart.

Stone Cold won the titla and the Smoking Skull belt was born. The Smoking Skull belt was criticized by many as being too obvious that it was meant for Stone Cold.

After feuding with The Rock, Stone Cold lost the belt. Rocky threw the belt into a river and introduced us to the Blue Globe design. This belt was a little closer to the old look but had a new updated faceplate and side plates.

Chirs Jericho may have been the one to unify the WWE and World titles, but it was Triple H who held the Undisputed Championship belt first.

The belt was a traditional design that was meant to represent both championships that were merged together.

Once Brock Lesnar decided to only defend the belt on Smackdown WWE brought back the Big Gold Belt to represent the World Heavyweight Championship.

And as we know JBL was the last person to use the WWE Championship before it was changed to the current spinner design, which no longer spins.

I get why WWE changed to the spinner belt when it did, but now it is time for a change.

With all the rumors going around that WWE will be merging all the championships this is the perfect opportunity to come out with a newly designed championship.

Something new is always good in the world of pro wrestling. With the current belt design being held by guys who are not John Cena it only makes sense to change it back to a more traditional design.

The Tag Team Championships recently got a makeover, now the new Spartan Helmet design is being used, and while some may not like the way the new belts look, I at least like the fact that WWE is trying to be original.

I am hoping that withing a year we have a totally new WWE Championship. I for one think the spinner belt took away from the glory of the championship. It looked tacky and was obviously made to be marketed as a toy more than it was made to look like a great belt.

So who's with me?
