Trent Edwards Proves Quickly He Isn't The Answer To Bills' Offense
After watching the Miami Dolphins befuddle the Buffalo Bills and quarterback Trent Edwards 15-10, I only can hope head coach Chan Gailey will stop this travesty at quarterback as quickly as possible.
We've seen Edwards, now for four years, and for just a brief period of time when he looked like he just might have a future, a concussion and ankle injury made him a very gun shy and timid quarterback. It's doubtful he'll ever recover and stand in the pocket like a true NFL quarterback should.
He has poor pocket awareness...anticipates pressure when it's not there, little to no scrambling ability and has can't or won't take a chance deep more than once a game.
"Captain Checkdown" couldn't even get the dump passes on the mark. The Dolphins had two sure interceptions dropped and most likely would have been returned for touchdowns. Edwards dump passes and screens, you know, those little 3-4 yards passes, were brutal to say the least.
When your offense doesn't have 75 yards of total offense midway through the fourth quarter of the game, something isn't right!!!!
We've got two other quarterbacks waiting in the wings. Time for Brian Brohm. He's a little bit more agile and looks like he's willing to take that chance down field. Edwards is far from that.
Ryan Fitzpatrick isn't the answer. A good, reliable, Alex Van Pelt-type backup but not a starter by any means.
I watched Michael Vick almost lead the Eagles back against the Packers Sunday and I drooled. Can you imagine Vick in the backfield with C.J. Spiller, Fred Jackson and Marshawn Lynch along with Roscoe Parrish and Lee Evans?
If anyone doubted Vick isn't back, those notions have been put to rest. Strong arm and great legs. Maybe a little rusty but coming off the bench when Eagles' quarterback Kevin Kolb suffered a concussion, he looked dynamite.
And just think how good Michael Vick would have looked in a Bills' uniform yesterday? It could have been very easy to obtain him but the Bills' power from above turned their back on the notion and now are stuck with Edwards, Brohm and Fitzpatrick.
Oh yeah, didn't Derek Anderson look good for Arizona as well? Could have been with the Bills.
Come to think of it, most quarterbacks in the NFL look better than any of the Bills' quarterbacks.
I know it's only game one, but I am sure the fans are falling off the Bills' bandwagon in droves. But I am staying on the bandwagon for a while more as the defense actually looked good, especially the secondary.
It gives me some slight hope.
A wicked three game stretch is coming up...at Green Bay, at New England and home to the New York Jets. Thoughts of a playoff spot....Yikes!!!
Unless a miracle at quarterback happens in the next three weeks, Buffalo is definitely staring at a horrible 0-4 start and become the laughing stock of the NFL...if we haven't all ready gotten there..
