Philadelphia Eagles QB Situation: To Vick or Not To Vick, That is the Question
We are just half a week removed from the literal painful loss to the Green Bay Packers in the first week of the 2010 NFL regular season, and already it appears as if there is a QB controversy outside of the NovaCare Complex.
We're all fully aware of the fact that starting quarterback Kevin Kolb left the game concussed after being ridden like a toboggan into the ground by Packers LB Clay Matthews. Kolb stood up with one of the biggest divots (golf term) I've ever seen hanging from his face mask.
Enter QB Michael Vick!

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
After Vick almost brought the Eagles back to win the game, the chatter immediately began: "Vick should be the starting QB for the Philadelphia Eagles." It came from every direction and every avenue and it didn't take long.
He showed a certain freshness in his legs and was making nice throws to his receivers and walked away with 175 yards passing and 103 yards rushing.
One thing is absolutely certain about him: He saved the Eagles franchise and their respective fans from total humiliation and forced the game to become just that—a game.
Have we seen enough from Vick as an Eagle, however, to name him the starting QB? Well no, we haven't, but the same could be easily said about Kevin Kolb. Many of us, including the brass of the Eagles, felt Kevin showed more than enough in just two starts last year.
Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg need to stop using these Wildcat plays with Vick under center, and the crowd's reaction during his first play of that game should speak loudly as the stadium rang with boos.
For the most part the Wildcat isn't working so stop using it so often. Get the defense on their toes first, THEN begin to incorporate that type of play calling.
I won't deny, I can't deny it, I am a Kevin Kolb supporter because I've seen more pros than cons to his abilities in the past, but as of late he hasn't shown anything that suggests he is ready to take the spotlight.
It is likely that he will not play in the upcoming game against the Detroit Lions, which is giving Vick all the time to prove his case to the Eagles front office. If he does so and gets the Birds on a little bit of a win streak, does it make sense to force a halt on production?
At this point I believe Andy Reid will give the nod to Kolb when he is ready to come back, and when he does, how nervous will he be? Can he put this behind him and move forward?
If he proves that he cannot, Vick will be the starting QB by the mid-point of this season, which might be too late if Kevin can't get back on track. As stated, I support Kolb but I support the Eagles more. Whoever is capable of getting the win should be the man starting.
It's only one game, though, gang, let's not jump the gun on this so soon. The Packers are a solid team and I expected this one to be a loss by a much bigger margin. Thanks to Vick that didn't happen, but every starting QB has his share of jitters. Give the kid more than one chance to state his case, folks.
All we can do at this point is speculate and play front office for a day while we offer our own opinions as to what the Eagles should do.
