A Cold Six-Pack and The Sunday Scoreboard: NFL Week One
- There is a reason why Brad Childress is considered by some to be the worst head coach in the NFL (with apologies to Lovie Smith of course) and he lived up to it on Thursday night by single-handily taking Adrian Peterson out of the game. Peterson was running very well through the first three quarters, but he only got one touch in the 4th. Instead, Childress puts the ball in the hands of Old Man Favre. Huh? The point of the game is to get the ball into the hands of your best player. The Vikings win that game if AP gets the ball in the 4th.
- Arian Foster is a good player, but he's not a great player. His performance today was more because the Indy defense looks absolutely terrible, rather then him having any special skills. Manning did his part, and the Indy offense played well. Bu that defense looks absolute shit. Chris Johnson is going to be running for 300+ yards unless they fix the unit quickly.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
- Calvin Johnson's "touchdown" at the end of the Bears-Lions game was the closest thing to a touchdown that wasn't a touchdown. It's an odd rule but it's a rule so it must be enforced. If Johnson did the same thing in the 1st quarter, then it wouldn't have been a touchdown either. It will get a lot of buzz because it was a game-decider, but really this is a pretty standard call.
- Seattle/San Francisco/Arizona/St. Louis: Does it really matter who plays who. All four of these teams properly suck. Arizona has the most offensive talent, but no quarterback. San Francisco has the most defensive talent, but no quarterback. Seattle is starting a vet with injury problems, and St. Louis is starting a rookie. Out of all the teams, Seattle played the best today. I still think San Fran wins the division at the end of the year.
- If you're the Falcons, you have to put up a better showing than what they did against Pittsburgh today. I know Pitt has a great defense, but that was really still quite embarrassing. If a team is starting a back-up QB, then you have to take advantage. Especially if you want to try and compete with NO this season.
- Welcome to the show, Chicago Bears offense. It won't get much easier then what went on today, but still. Forte had a huge day, and Jay Cutler played very well. If they can improve from week-to-week, there is no reason why they shouldn't stay competitive in the NFC North. Detroit is Detroit, but the Lions are going to be a much better team then people think this season, and this is a win that the Bears should be proud of. Especially after such a terrible preseason.
- Brady, Manning and Cutler put up some great stats. But the two guys who are getting less credit: Vince Young and David Garrard. Both guys got big opening week wins, plus QB ratings that were 130+. More on Garrard. Very impressive today. For a guy fighting for his job, especially since most people don't expect Jacksonville to be very good, he played very well.Denver has a pretty good defense too.
- While Miami struggled with a frisky Buffalo team, NE blew up Cincinnati. The Bengals pride themselves on a good defense (Maualuga, Keith Rivers, Jonathan Joseph, Odom) but NE exploited it in all circumstances. Wouldn't be shocked if NE storms through this season pretty easily. Their defense is a tad shaky, but that O-unit is top notch.
- Hakeem Nicks put up the best WR stats today. Not really a huge surprise as he is very good, but maybe, just maybe, he can be in the conversation as a top WR (with the Fitzgerald's, Johnson's, Moss's). I'll put him in the 2nd unit (with Welker, Jennings, DeSean Jackson) just to be safe.
- Tough night for Kevin Kolb. Don't worry Eagles fans, things will get better. People say that there is going to be a QB controversy now in Philly if Kolb is out two weeks with his concussion and Vick is forced to play. Don't buy it. Philly needs to get the ball into the hands of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin, and Kolb is going to do that much better then Vick. Vick is a great backup, but I don't have much confidence in as a starter. Kolb looked shaky out there tonight, but GB is a damn good team so most quarterbacks would look a little flustered.

Game Ball of the week goes to: Pete Carroll. He brought his Seattle team, woefully untalented, into San Francisco and they knocked around pre'season favorite 49ers. Hanging 3 TD's on San Fran (they got 7 on an Alex Smith pick six) is very impressive. Especially given that they kept Frank Gore around 30 yards on the ground.
Loser of the Week: Calvin Johnson: A lot of people could get this one. Frank Gore, Matt Ryan, the Cowboys T who held Washington on the last play and the Indy D all turned out poor performances. But it should go to Megatron, who caught a touchdown to "win" the game against Chicago, but celebrated too early in the end zone and got it stripped from him. The ball was in his hands, he went to the ground, and he tried to do some sort of spike thing with the ball. Detroit gets the L.
Big Week 2 Game to look forward to: Indianapolis Colts vs. New York Giants. A brother rematch. Giants look pretty tough, but the colts don't want to go down 0-2 to start the year.
Other big games: Pittsburgh vs. Tennessee (see what CJ and Young can do against this D); Chicago vs. Dallas (something a little frisky about this Chicago team, especially if they can put pressure on Romo); Baltimore vs. Cincinnati (AFC North showdown. Winner of this gets huge edge for the rest of the year).
