Week 2 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Pick Them Up

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballSep 12, 2010

As a fantasy football owner, it’s very easy to overreact to a player’s performance in Week 1 and be ready to totally revamp your roster based on a few disappointing or out-of-nowhere terrific performances.

While we generally recommend a “wait-and-see it’s only Week 1” approach, a shrewd add after the season’s opening week can help your fantasy team get back on track. Even if the player (or players) you add doesn’t turn out to be a long-term solution, he might have enough juice to help you get over your lineup woes.

On that note, here are the Bruno Boys’ recommended “Fantasy Football Waiver Wire - Pick Them Ups” for the week ahead.

Quick Note: Not all players that had strong Week 1 outings are on this list, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they don’t have value. If you have any questions about free agents not discussed in this article, head over to the forums and we’ll help you with the answers.

QUARTERBACKS - PICK THEM UP

Michael Vick (Philadelphia Eagles) - Vick accumulated 175 passing yards and a touchdown along with 103 rushing yards after taking over for Kevin Kolb (concussion) in Week 1 against the Green Bay Packers

Eagles’ head coach Andy Reid said Kolb will start if he’s healthy enough to do so in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions. Vick is worth adding in deeper leagues or certainly if you own Kolb and have the roster space.

Whoever starts under center for Philadelphia next week has a favorable matchup.  Vick is owned in 11 percent of Yahoo! Leagues.

Derek Anderson (Arizona Cardinals) - Anderson went 22-for-41 for 297 yards and a touchdown against the St. Louis Rams in the season opener.

The veteran quarterback has favorable matchups in the four weeks leading up to Arizona’s Week 6 bye. Week 2 brings a matchup against a potentially vulnerable Atlanta secondary, followed by matchups with the Oakland Raiders in Week 3, the San Diego Chargers in Week 4, and the New Orleans Saints in Week 5.

Anderson is currently owned in just 20 percent of Yahoo! Leagues, a percentage that should go up this week.

Kyle Orton (Denver Broncos) - Orton went 21-for-33 for 295 yards with a touchdown and an interception against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1.

He has a stretch of potentially good-but-not-great matchups coming up against Seattle, Indianapolis and Tennessee over the next three weeks; however he could be worth adding as a QB2 if you’re in a 12-team league.

Orton is currently owned in 52 percent of Yahoo! Leagues.

Quarterbacks Watch List: David Garrard (Jacksonville Jaguars), Jimmy Clausen (Carolina Panthers), Matt Hasselbeck (Seattle Seahawks)
