BMW Championship: The Final Curtain on Tiger Woods' Lost Season
Tiger Woods is still the no. 1 ranked golfer in the world, but you wouldn't know it from the last 10 months of his life.
The once-invincible Woods became all too human this year.
Woods' season will shortly end with the culmination of the BMW Championship.
It will mark the first season of his career that Tiger Woods will go winless in the PGA. Going winless is just one of the many lowlights in Tiger's year.
Here are the top ten low moments of 2010 for Tiger Woods.
10. The Absence
1 of 10
Woods was conspicuous by his absence through the first 20 weeks of 2010.
Tiger took a break trying to get his life back on track after all of the revelations surrounding his personal life had come to light.
Woods looked as though things would be okay when he came back in April for the Masters, in which he finished fourth.
However, it would be tied for his best finish in 2010.
9. The Commercial
2 of 10
After all the scandal, Nike and Woods thought a commercial featuring the voice of Tiger's father lending him advice to live by would be a way to endear Tiger to America once again.
What they didn't plan on was just how creepy the commercial would come off.
Tiger's blank stare in the camera and the ominous sound of Earl's voice turned fans off even more.
Even when Tiger did his best to look good in 2010, it didn't work.
8. The Withdrawal
3 of 10
The worst two weeks of actual golf Tiger had suffered through in quite some time ended painstakingly when he withdrew from The Players Championship at Sawgrass.
Tiger was 4-under but well off the lead when he called it quits, citing a neck injury.
Withdrawing led many to question Tiger's commitment to golf, plus opened the door to a world of "Tiger pulled out" jokes.
7. The Mistresses
4 of 10
Tiger's ladies on the side began coming out in late 2009, but more came out of the woodwork in 2010.
Women across the country claimed to have had affairs with Tiger and even had evidence such as voice mails to prove it.
Tiger was linked to women ranging from club promoters to porn stars, and with each new mistress, Tiger's image took a bigger hit.
6. The Divorce
5 of 10
It seemed inevitable that this would happen, but Tiger and Elin tried to make things work.
However, with more and more revelations of affairs, Elin made it official and she and Tiger split.
Woods was mandated to pay what is rumored up to $750 million to Elin in cash and assets.
While the actual divorce didn't make headlines as much as other Tiger moments, it was definitely a low point of the season.
5. The Tour Championship
6 of 10
For the first time since the PGA Tour instituted the FedEx Cup Playoff system, Tiger will fail to qualify for the capstone tournament.
Only the top 30 advance to the season finale, and Woods late charge in the season still leaves him short of the necessary amount of points to move on.
While it is disappointing that Tiger will not advance, I am sure he will be happy to put 2010 in his rear-view mirror.
4. The Press Conference
7 of 10
Tiger's press conference was supposed to give us an explanation.
It was supposed to give us answers.
All it gave us was awkward vibes and the impression Tiger wasn't going to be truly forthcoming about his indiscretions.
Tiger admitted to making mistakes, but took no questions, and even surprised viewers by bringing up his re-commitment to Buddhism.
The press conference left fans with almost as many questions as they had going into it, and even fewer answers.
3. The Goatee
8 of 10
What was the deal with this?
Whether Tiger was just trying something new, or trying to remake his image, the goatee was an awkward look.
Maybe his new bachelor facial hair made Tiger feel like a different man than he who had faced the problems of the past months, but to fans it was just plain weird.
Needless to say, the facial hair didn't last long.
2. The Missed Cut
9 of 10
Tiger's performance at Quail Hollow was abysmal to say the least.
Tiger missed just the sixth cut of his career after posting a 74-79 for a 153 (+9).
The 79 was the worst round of his career and the missed cut left fans questioning if we would ever see the old Tiger again.
1. The Bridgestone
10 of 10
Tiger Woods' season can best be summed up with a copy of his scorecard from the Bridgestone.
The worst finish of his career, matched with the worst 72-hole total of his career, punctuated Tiger's dismal season.
Tiger went 74-72-75-77 for a 298 (+18) en route to finishing second-to-last.
After an entire year of low moments, the Bridgestone may have been the lowest.
