Fantasy Football Week 1: 10 Sleeper Point Pleasers Worth a Lineup Gamble
If you haven't heard, Tim Tebow is the backup to Broncos starter Kyle Orton, and fantasy football just got more interesting.
He might actually be able to contribute to your fantasy team, even in a backup role.
Doesn't the news of his new role make you want to add him from the free agent pool?
He's an exciting player to watch and he's an awesome player to root for. You know that even the fans in Jacksonville will be rooting for him. How can they not? He's their hometown hero.
Here are 10 sleepers that are worth taking gamble on in Week 1.
QB, Chad Henne, Miami Dolphins
1 of 10
The Miami offense should be busy this week playing against the Buffalo Bills.
Although, it's the Dolphins running game that usually thrives against the Bills' poor run defense, this week their passing game might be able to get in on some of the fun.
Why? They finally have a solid No. 1 threat in Brandon Marshall.
Expect Chad Henne to establish a rapport with Marshall and find the end zone at least once on 200 passing yards.
QB, Dennis Dixon, Pittsburgh Steelers
2 of 10
Dixon is a mobile-quarterback with a great opportunity to showcase his talents with Big Ben on a four-game suspension.
His two-way ability gives the Steelers a different look on offense.
Look for him to find the end zone at least one with his arm and once more with his feet against the Atlanta Falcons.
QB, Tim Tebow, Denver Broncos
3 of 10
Ever hear of a goal-line and third down running back?
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the goal-line and third-down quarterback.
Tebow's been named the No. 2 quarterback behind Kyle Orton and is expected to see minutes.
It's still unsure how Tebow will be used, but he'll get a chance to play in his hometown of Jacksonville.
WR, T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Baltimore Ravens
4 of 10
Baltimore Ravens coach Jim Harbaugh has said that T.J. will get plenty of playing time in their opening game against a tough New York Jets secondary led by Darrelle Revis.
But with Anquan Boldin and Todd Heap on the team, Houshmadzadeh is not the only receiving option for Baltimore.
Joe Flacco will be looking for T.J. so he can establish a rapport with his newest target.
T.J. is a sleeper for a touchdown score.
WR, Kenny Britt, Tennesse Titans
5 of 10
Britt is one of the most talented receivers on the Titans roster. Last year, he averaged 16.3 yards per catch.
The Titans open their season playing the Oakland Raiders and with Vince Young expected to throw the ball more this year.
He might connect with Britt for some big-time yardage and a touchdown.
WR, Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys
6 of 10
What can I say? I'm a Dez Bryant fan.
Seriously though, Bryant is expected to be a starter in tonight's game against Washington.
The Redskins secondary is tough but they'll probably be zeroed in on new Mr. I-Just-Signed-a-$52-million-contract, Miles Austin.
I'm sure they'll challenge the rookie to beat them downfield.
And something tells me Bryant won't disappoint.
WR, Mike Wiliams, Seattle Seahawks
7 of 10
The Seattle Seahawks were so high on Williams that they moved their best receiver from a season ago to make room for him in the starting lineup.
Of course, the Detroit Lions were so high on him they drafted him 10th overall in the 2005, and he failed them miserably.
If there's anyone that can help him find his game, it's going to be his former mentor and USC coach Pete Carroll.
Hey, if he's on the free agent pool and you've got room. Why not?
RB, Darren McFadden, Oakland Raiders
8 of 10
Oh, how the mighty have fallen.
Raiders starting running back Michael Bush injured his left thumb during the preseason and is not likely to play in the season opener.
And McFadden finds himself with an opportunity to impress his coaches with a strong showing.
It's one of those back-to-wall moments for him. Either he shows them something to be excited about or else he might go the way of the Buffalo, I mean JaMarcus Russell.
RB, Fred Taylor, New England Patriots
9 of 10
Laurence Maroney is listed as unlikely for today's game against the Bengals, so Taylor will be on spot starter duty.
In six games with the Patriots, Taylor collected 4 TDs.
With the lion's share of the running carries, he could find the end zone at least once today.
TE, Jermaine Gresham, Cincinnati Begals
10 of 10
Gresham's a big rookie pass-catching tight end drafted in the first-round by the Cincinnati Bengals.
He's on a team with veteran wide receivers Chad Ochocinco and Terrell Owens that will demand respect from the Patriots secondary.
And he's got a gunslinging quarterback who is not afraid to throw the ball, Gresham just might surprise us with a season-opening score.
