Tim Tebow Named No. 2 QB on Denver Broncos Depth Chart, Will Play in Week 1

Mihir BhagatSep 12, 2010

According to reports, the Denver Broncos named Tim Tebow their No. 2 quarterback on the depth chart ahead of Brady Quinn

Moreover, Tebow is expected to play when the Broncos head down to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars in their season opener. There will be a select package for him to run, and it'll be interesting to see how he performs.

Even more intriguing will be what type of plays head coach Josh McDaniels dials up for Tebow to run. Will he be a traditional quarterback and lead a drive, or just enter sparingly either in the Wildcat formation or possibly in short-yardage and goal-line situations?

Note, whatever it may be, this will come in front of a Jaguars fan base that pleaded their organization to draft the former Florida star quarterback. Instead, the Broncos surprisingly traded back into the first round to snatch arguably the most intriguing prospect to ever enter the NFL.

Tebow has deservedly claimed the No. 2 role, as he played rather well in the preseason. He completed 25 of his 39 passes for 344 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for a touchdown. His mechanics and particularly his throwing motion looked improved, yet still needed much more work.

All eyes will be on how he responds to his first true NFL action, and will certainly be one of the key headlines heading into this week's games. I, personally, expect him to have his share of struggles, yet continue to demonstrate command and leadership in the huddle.

Regardless of how he plays, though, I wish him the best of luck today and moving forward with his career.
