The Overlooked: Best Wrestlers In TNA Today

RiZESep 11, 2010

While Constructing my Best WWE Wrestlers list, I turned my interest towards TNA. While TNA has been putting on some great matches lately, I felt it would only be fair to draw up their best wrestlers.

Lately TNA has been besting WWE in match Quality. The Beer Money/MCMG Best of Five Series has been absolutely amazing.

Their Tag Team Division has also bested WWE's since the Hart Dynasty rarely defend. Not exactly their fault, but when you don't have a stage to showcase your talent, you get overlooked.

In the past TNA has put on some classics. Like AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe vs Christopher Daniels.

They never received proper recognition from the IWC. Well at least not publicly.

Like my last, all genres are considered, meaning Lucha Libre, Technical, Submission, or just down right brawling.

Mic Skill is not considered. Solely in ring ability.

World Titles are not important, as most of the talent have yet to be Champions.

Maybe the guys can claim/reclaim the TNA Title in the future.

Kurt Angle

1 of 6

I'm going to start this list of with arguably the Greatest Wrestler of All Time, Kurt Angle. While most known him for his classics with The Rock, Undertaker, Triple H, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, HBK, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.

This man can do it all. Submissions? High Flying? Technical? Brawling? Mat? Look no further than the Wrestling Machine. This guy, at the age of 40, hit the Icon Sting with a 450!

Not many guys can still perform at that age. While Kurt lately has been threatening to retire if he loses a match.

No time soon it seems, as Kurt has beat almost everyone in TNA's top ten. I expect another World Title reign very soon.

Now Kurt's technical ability is only rivaled by Bryan Danielson. If you saw TNA's last ppv, you witnessed Kurt Angle vs Jeff Hardy. Perhaps one of the best matches of the year.

Finisher after Finisher, with no clear winner, it went pass the time limit. Bad move by TNA management but the Match itself overshadows that.

Kurt's signature Ankle lock, is probably the most effective in wrestling history. He has had the main stars on TNA & WWE sub come to the pain of the hold.

Kurt's got that glow about himself. He can make some of the worst wrestlers look good.

You wanna see Angle at his best? Watch his matches with Stone Cold at Summerslam, HBK at Wrestlemania, or Samoa Joe at Genesis 2006.

AJ Styles

2 of 6

The Face of TNA, AJ Styles. Now AJ hasn't been performing to his ability as of late. So observe one of his older matches. This guy is an all around athlete.

While his main Genre may be the High Flying, Styles can also expand. His springboard 450 Splash makes Justin Gabriel's look like an amateurs.

Another man who can put on classic matches. He expanded his craft during his time in the X Division. When you put him. Christopher Daniels, and Samoa Joe in a match, you get a classic.

That's exactly the reason I fell in love with TNA. That match is an all timer. AJ probably is the best high flyer in wrestling today. His Career is already HOF worthy & he is barely over 30!

AJ is often imitated. Having his signature move stolen by a certain WWE Diva definitely says WWE watches him closely.

Why wouldn't they? This guy's springboard attacks are amazing! That flying forearm is spectacular.

And the Spiral Tap. That has to be the greatest top rope finisher I've ever seen.

Pure magic.

AJ has already been a multiple World Champion. He has won every single title in TNA. The only Grand Slam Champion in TNA.

The Phenomenal One has many years ahead of him. He is currently leading Fourtune.

Don't expect that to last too long. AJ is to good a star to be in a stable.

Samoa Joe

3 of 6

The Samoan Submission Machine, Samoa Joe. The Most Dominant TNA Superstar. This guy had a Undefeated Streak lasting over a year! Before taping out to the Ankle Lock, during Kurt Angle's debut. He got his revenge at the next PPV, making Kurt Angle tap out.

While that's an accomplishment in it's own right, this guy moves like a Cruiser weight, that's unprecedented for his size. Joe studies Judo, Muay Thai, and Jiu Jitsu. Great Striker in his own right. Contrary to his nickname, Joe doesn't use many Submissions.

His power works for him. Having a monster like Joe drop you on your neck from a Muscle Buster seems very unpleasant. This guy delivers an enzuiguiri  as good as AJ delivers a pele kick!

A few of his other moves are the Coquina Clutch, Island Driver, and the Chimera plex.

All very innovative maneuvers.

Joe is a multi time X Division Champion, a World Champion, and tag team champion. One of the few Triple Crown Champions. At the moment Joe is feuding against Kevin Nash and Sting.

He & Jarrett intend to rid TNA of the Cancer.

Desmond Wolfe

4 of 6

WWE really dropped the ball when they let him go to TNA. Desmond Wolfe, like Kaval & Bryan Danielson, Wolfe spent his first years wrestling on the Indy Scene. After holding both the ROH Pure & World Champion for over a year, Wolfe made his way to TNA.

Now Wolfe is more of a Innovator. Clearly from his finisher, Tower of London. It's devastating. Imagine a stone cold Stunner but your hung on the top rope. Ouch. Wolfe debuted, feuding with Angle. He turned Kurt inside out with a Lariat.

It looked like he broke Kurt's neck, way to sell Kurt.

The guy uses the Hammerlock to do five different moves! The DDT being the most devastating.

Desmond is a guy utilizing his power in most matches. You can't just pin one Genre Wolfe. He is a mix of different ones.

Lately Wolfe hasn't been on the Winning side of things in TNA. He has been teamed with a far less superior star, Brutus Magnus.

London Brawling were the No. 1 Contenders to the TNA Tag Team Titles before mysteriously being taken out, in the last minute.

Wolfe's best matches were in ROH against Bryan Danielson, be sure to watch.

Rob Van Dam

5 of 6

Rob Van Dam, the Whole F'n Show has been on a role since coming to TNA. Van Dam has yet to lose a match since his debut. He has beaten almost every top Superstar in TNA excluding Kurt Angle.

Van Dam incorporated Martial Arts in his in ring ability. He uses the High Flying Genre. He is also a Innovator.

The Rolling Thunder, Van Terminator, Van Daminator, and the Five Star Frogsplash are all moves he altered of created.

Probably known better for his time in WWE. He was ranked the Best Wrestler in the World in 2002

Van Dam had classic matches with Jeff Hardy, Triple H, Eddie Guerrero, John Cena, and Randy Orton. WWE never properly used him.

Only winning the WWE Title ONCE. It was tarnished as Edge interfered on his behalf. Later losing his WWE & ECW titles over the course of two days,

Mr Thursday Night is running rampant through TNA. It will only be a matter of time before he's back and is holding the TNA Title once again. Maybe a feud with Kurt Angle will really spark things.
