It seems like every season, the Seminoles have high expectations that merely get shattered at some point with a crippling loss to a team that they have no business falling to. Could this be an exception this year?

Things certainly look promising after one game, though a 59-7 victory over Samford probably needs to be tempered based on the fact that this was still just an FCS team.

Christian Ponder only made one blunder in a huge first half against the Bulldogs last week, as he went 12-of-14 with four TD passes and that one INT.

Florida State did allow 300 yards on defense, but many of those yards were allowed in garbage time. The test does get significantly harder this week for a defense that was miserable at times in 2009.

The Sooners might have some defensive problems as well. After all, allowing nearly 500 yards and 24 points in a narrow seven point escape against the Utah State Aggies is nothing to be proud of. Bob Stoops thought that this was one of the best defenses in the nation coming into this season, and though that might ultimately be the case, it certainly doesn’t look that way right now.

Landry Jones didn’t have his best outing in the first start of his sophomore year completing just 17-of-36 passes for 217 yards with two TDs and a pair of picks. The good news is that he was picked up by the efforts of Ryan Broyles, who caught nine passes for 142 yards and two scores.

The hero of the day was DeMarco Murray, who might be emerging as a Heisman Trophy possibility after starting off his year with 218 yards and two TDs on an alarming 35 carries for the Sooners.

The defense might have allowed 341 passing yards, but it also picked off three passes and recovered a fumble that helped save the complete embarrassment.

NCAA Football Insider Tip: The Sooners are just 0-5-1 ATS in their L/6 games following an SU victory.

Florida State is in need of a major victory to get the program back on track. The Noles have the capability to do just that, even in this type of an environment. Remember last year when FSU marched into Provo and took out the BYU Cougars in a big way? It could be the same sort of situation this year in Norman.

Don’t discount FSU’s ability to win this outright when you bet on football come Saturday to ultimately earn Jimbo Fisher his signature win as the Noles coach.
