New York Jets Reach Contract Agreement With Darrelle Revis, Ready for Season

Alec McAfeeSep 7, 2010

After sitting out 35 days during a contract dispute, the New York Jets finally made an offer to star cornerback Darrelle Revis that was too good to pass up.

The Jets made Revis, a fourth-year pro out of Pittsburgh, the proud owner of a new four-year, $46 million deal that includes over $27 million guaranteed.

"I'm happy it’s over with," said Revis of the month-long holdout that caused him to miss the entire training camp. "(I was) hoping it would get done so I could play football."

With the addition of Revis, the Jets solidify themselves as one of the premiere teams in the AFC.

Although Revis is widely considered to be one of the top corners in the National Football League, he was quick to point out that he still has quite a ways to go to get back into 'football shape'.

"I think I’ll be able to play in Monday night’s game," Revis said. "I’m in shape, but... I haven’t had pads on... so it’s something that I have to get back into and take it slow in the process.”

The Jets open their season with one of the toughest games on their schedule, hosting the Baltimore Ravens, Coach Rex Ryan's former team, on Monday Night Football (7 ET, ESPN).

“They’re good without me," Revis said of the Jets defense.

"I think I’m just another piece to the puzzle that’s just trying to help this team get to the Super Bowl."
