US Open Day 10 Tennis Betting Tips

Premiership TipsSep 7, 2010

Novak Djokovic v Gael Monfils

Two players who made a slow start to their US Open campaigns, winning their round one matches in five sets have picked it up since then. Novak Djokovic has won his last 11 sets here in New York, following another straight set victory in round 4. The in-form Mardy Fish was no match for Novak. Gael Monfils had a straights set victory in round 4 over fellow countryman Richard Gasquet, but I cannot see him taking three sets from Novak Djokovic on Wednesday. His performances haven’t been as impressive and also has a 1-2 tie break record over the past 9 days. It would take a slump from Novak Djokovic for him to lose. Which although he is capable of, I don’t see it happening tomorrow.

Roger Federer v Robin Soderling

Another player who needed five sets to scrape through round one was Robin Soderling. But the Swede recovered to produce two comfortable straight set victories before dropping the opener on Monday night against Albert Montanes. Roger Federer has had it all plain sailing so far having won all four matches without dropping a set. The second seed and favourite for this year’s US Open defeated Robin Soderling in four sets at the same stage here last year. That was his twelfth successive victory over Soderling, and also his last to date. Robin Soderling has since won their previous two meetings, including their quarter final match at the French Open this year. Federer was off of his game that day, and now that he is back on it I expect him to progress to his seventh consecutive semi final tomorrow.

Vera Zvonareva v Kaia Kanepi

Andrea Petkovic was no match for Vera Zvonareva in round four as the Russian dropped just 3 games to her German opponent. Superior mobility and hitting were the main factors in Zvonareva’s victory, whom is two matches away from reaching a second successive Grand Slam final. Kaia Kanepi is first to stand in her way. The Estonian too has been hitting the ball very well and powerfully as she has caused upsets over Jelena Jankovic and Yanina Wickmayer to reach a second consecutive Grand Slam quarter final. Kanepi has never progressed further than this, and although she is playing the best tennis of her career, I see Zvonareva’s experience and mobility will be a determining factor in this match.

Caroline Wozniacki v Dominika Cibulkova

Caroline Wozniacki took advantage of an error prone Maria Sharapova to reach this stage. However, the scoreboard did not show the true story of her 6-3 6-4 victory. The match lasted nearly 2 hours and was a slugfest from the outset with both players giving it their all. Wozniacki was forced to return a lot of powerful shots from Sharapova and run all over the court to retrieve them. But she did and she did it successfully. Before that, Dominika Cibulkova caused an upset against Svetlana Kuznetsova on Monday. The Slovakian continues to play well here, but I don’t see her having the quality to progress past the quarter final stage and an in-form Caroline Wozniacki. The Dane will be forcing Cibulkova into errors while making winners of her own, as she has been doing all week.
