NL West Showdown Likely
The last few weeks remaining the baseball schedule is definitely going to be interesting in the NL West. The Padres are at a season high 10 game losing streak, while the Giants and Rockies are slowly making up ground. This truly has been a crazy year for the NL West! No one had thought that the San Diego Padres would be up in the divison for most of the season. These guys have always had strong pitching and added some solid bats mid season to widen their lead in the divison. Though their offense is decent, their stellar pitching is not struggling at an inopportune time. They are struggling against division rivals (except the Giants) and have had trouble beating the Phillies as well. If the Padres were to make the playoffs they better start getting on a hot streak to have any chance.
The Giants and Rockies are slowly continuing to climb the ladder in standings. These guys have had a lot of hot and cold streaks during the season, but it looks like things are starting to fall into place. Both of these teams have stellar pitching but the one big difference is that Colorado has is Carlos Gonzales. This guy is hitting the ball so well and has burned fellow division foes to become a true MVP Candidate in the NL. He has been coming through in the clutch for the Rockies and if they continue their great pitching, they might represent the NL West in the playoffs.

The Giants are not far however-They were able to win a great pitching duel between Lincecum and Jimenez and take 2 of 3 from the Rockies. This team probably has one of the best and most promising rotations in baseball, but surprisingly their pitching has given them some troubles recently. The Giants lost the wild card lead to the Phillies and should be very happy that the Padres are slipping at the right time for them to finally take over the divison lead. If this team continues to improve on their hitting and if the pitching staff delivers solid performances from here on out, I think the Giants can really cause some damage in the playoffs this year.
This year has been so unpredictable in the NL West that it’s kind of pointless to even make predictions. All we can hope for is a strong battle all the way to the end!
This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.
