At 2:10 pm, our complimentary selection is on the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers ‘over’ the total. With their post-season hopes all but gone, the Milwaukee Brewers are apparently going to keep putting starter Yovani Gallardo out there every five days even though there is something obviously wrong with the All-Star righthander. Gallardo is 0-2 with a 12.27 ERA and 2.25 WHIP in his last three starts and one has to assume that the team has had him checked over thoroughly for any injuries and have found none. Given these numbers, it’s actually a miracle that Gallardo still has a winning record (11-7) and an ERA under four runs (3.86). Gallardo is hoping to turn it around with one month to go and if there’s one thing he can’t complain about lately, it’s run support as the Brew Crew scored 48 runs in Gallardo’s six August starts. Gallardo could use some of that this afternoon as in his only two starts of the season against the Cardinals, he turned in terrible outings and the Brewers were beaten 7-1 in both games. The Cardinals are hoping that a trip to Miller Park will cure their scoring woes as this team - who have only scored 12 runs in their last seven games - went into Milwaukee in April for a three games series and proceeded to plate a total of 19 runs. The over is 19-7-1 in Milwaukee’s last 27 home games. Take the ‘over.’ As always, good luck…Al McMordie.
