Boston Bruins: Savard Rumor Quashed, Bergeron Wants To Stay in Black & Gold
After months of speculation, Boston Bruins' GM Peter Chiarelli has announced that Marc Savard is staying put as a member of the B's.
ESPN's James Murphy was speaking with Chairelli regarding the matter.
“There is all these things that happen and there are always things that swirl around about moving guys, and I cannot respond to anything in kind because I don’t directly comment on trade rumors,” Chiarelli told Murphy. “I can tell you, though, that there was discussion and inquiries on Marc and they became public.

“There has been a number of inquires on a lot of the players, some become public and some don’t for obvious reasons, but as we told Marc, that’s part of the business and he understood that. I made sure he knows what we think of him: He is a Boston Bruin and an elite offensive player we’re happy to have on this team.”
Currently being $3 million over the salary cap according to capgeek.com, Chairelli had the responsibility to keep all options open in order to secure the best players possible under the current cap of $59.4 million.
Savard's seven-year, $28.5 million contract currently sits him at an approximate $4 million cap hit. For a player of Savard's caliber this is a friendly cap hit and hopefully, the affects of the concussion he sustained at the hands of Matt Cooke will be in the past.
Savard was silent about the whole thing until he did tell the Ottawa Sun that he was hurt by the rumors going around "hurt me a little bit just because I went to Boston and I helped to build that team back up." Hopefully they can put this behind them and get down to hockey.
At the same time, Savard's contract will no longer be investigated as the Ilya Kovalchuk deal has been revised and agreed upon by all parties. As an agreement, Savard, Roberto Luongo and Maria Hossa's contract will not be investigated.
Bergeron wants to stay in Beantown.
Patrice Bergeron is at the last year of his contract and he is making no bones where he wants to be in the foreseeable future; back in the Black & Gold.
Bergeron, who made a heck of a comeback after a year of a Grade 3 Concussion, made a good comeback year and was getting better as time went by. His current hit is a $4.75 million and if the 25 year old understands the Cap Era of the NHL, he may have to take a pay cut.
If he does, it wouldn't surprise me as there are a number of players both current and former that enjoyed their time in Boston.
“I want to stay a Bruin. That’s something that I've made very clear to Peter,”
Bergeron told CSNNE.com
“I really like it here. We’ll go from there, but right now I’m worrying about training camp and the season. From there we’ll see.”
Both Chiarelli and Bergeron's agent, Keith Hughes, are already in the preliminary talks and he has no problem quieting them down if it proves to be a distraction as training camp and the upcoming season is is primary focus right now. He hopes that talks will go smoothly and does not hinder his thoughts on his current goal.
With all that said and done, there is still a lot of work to be done for the B's GM and a rumor that was finally put to bed.
