In and Out of Seattle: Roster Cut Moves

Pardon My Bias Bleacher ReportSep 5, 2010

There were two major rosters cuts this past week: the Arizona Cardinals released quarterback Matt Leinart and the Seattle Seahawks cut wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh. Personally, I highly doubt that both of these guys will be on the market for too long.

Leinart was the 10th pick in the 2006 NFL draft and was supposed to be the future QB for the Cardinals. He has been criticized many times for being to “Hollywood” and not paying enough attention to football but I really think this was the wrong move for the Cardinals. Derek Anderson is no gem. He had one good season but other than that, he’s barely even an average quarterback. Leinart may have not been anything special but there was a possibility of him becoming a decent QB. Either way, that is the past now and it is time to look into the future. The Seattle Seahawks need to pick this guy up. They have Matt Hasselbeck but he’s only useful to them if he can stay on the field. Plus the Seahawks are now being coached Pete Carroll, who coached Leinart at USC. It seems during the preseason that Carrol has worked wonders with ex-USC wide receiver Mike Williams, who had pretty much been forgotten. This could be a great fit for Leinart and could work out very well for Seattle also. One team’s trash could be another team’s treasure.

With Mike Williams impressing the Seattle coaching staff during the preseason, the team decided to shockingly release T.J. Houshmandzadeh. T.J. was Seattle’s top option at wide receiver and could be a huge factor for many teams. Two teams come to mind, the San Diego Chargers and the Minnesota Vikings. The Chargers still have a disgruntled Vincent Jackson, who is willing to holdout for 10 games and could be traded. He would make a great weapon for Philip Rivers and fit in well with Malcom Floyd and Antonio Gates. The Vikings on the other hand have Brett Favre back but will be missing Sidney Rice for six weeks and may not be able to rely on Percy Harvin, who has been having severe migraines. He could fit in well there opposite Bernard Berrian and help the Vikings make another playoff run. Personally I would love to see him come to San Diego. Vincent Jackson is being a fool and the Chargers do not have time to wait for him. They need to move on and T.J. would be a great way to carry on with football.

So here is my advice…Seahawks, go out and get Matt Leinart and Chargers, please find a way to pick up T.J. Houshmandzadeh.

This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.
