Floyd Mayweather's Apologizes for the Video, Meanwhile Mission Accomplished!

Before I clicked the play button on my computer to hear Floyd Mayweather’s insults of Manny Pacquaio; I was gearing up for some comedic rant that attacked Manny playfully, but effectively. I must say I was shocked because in my opinion Floyd crossed the line that he usually tiptoes on. Although I think it was nothing more than Mayweather Jr. in his own way addressing the media’s assertion that he is scared of Manny. It is also evidence that he is a little frustrated with the rumors circulating after the failed negotiations with Top Rank Promotions.

            Since this video hit mainstream the conversation has been about Floyd Mayweather Jr. and most headlines had the word racist in it. Do I think this video is evidence of racism, maybe if it wasn’t Floyd Mayweather Jr. Since racism is based on feeling you are superior to a person based on their race I would classify the video more as prejudice. He never states he is a better fighter than Pacquaio because of race, but he does make some stereotypical comments that most attribute to Asians, which in my opinion is prejudice nothing more. I am not excusing Floyd’s behavior, but I don’t think it’s a civil rights issue.

            Now about this recent apology I don’t think it’s sincere by any stretch of the imagination. Everything that Money Mayweather does is calculated and this video is no different. This video wasn’t a slip of the tongue it was premeditated. Most who are not fans of this guy is because of his mouth and inversely it’s the same reason those who are . No one can deny his ability in the ring, but the reason he is marketable is because of the controversy his name carries. At the exact moment Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquaio's November 13th fight started clogging the headlines his Ustream video leaks, and now we are talking about Mayweather again.

            I’ve read some ridiculous assessments of the video, but the worst is the sense of fear. What I heard was an admission of a future fight in which he vows to win. I also see him provoking and setting the stage for the drug test issue to be settled. I think if Manny really accepts random drug testing the fight is on, but nothing in the video shows fear of Manny. I think he broke his silence in a way that only he controlled. For a man whose identity is laced with pushing the limits I would say mission accomplished!
