Top 5 Wrestling Storylines In WWE & TNA

Evan TanguySep 4, 2010

Story lines make the wrestling world go round. Sometimes they plan way far in advance, such as HBK's retirement match with the Undertaker and sometimes they plan the night of. Such as whose going to start a feud on this night or specifically who is going to win a specific match.

The more unpredictability, entertainment, and fan appeal a storyline has, the better off the writer, company, and wrestlers are.

Of course the wrestlers in and out of ring skills are important, but in the end, it's the soap opera appeal that ropes us in and keeps us on our feet and entertained.

Here are the most entertaining story arcs or plots going on in the wrestling world.

#5. Sting and Nash - Smoke In the Mirrors

1 of 5

Granted these guys are way past their prime... but their is something exciting about seeing your favorite wrestlers from the past in the ring. These veterans actually have a somewhat intriguing storyline that seemed to be headed somewhere big until the EV 2.0 invasion delayed this storyline.

If Big Sexy and Stinger actually have some dirt on Hogan, Bischoff and Double J, then their lack of any remaining in-ring skills will be made up for, by having one last hooray of a dirty storyline. It seems to me like Sting and Nash have some dirt and I think it would be really entertaining and Smart of TNA to make it so they do.

Now granted if the story arc is just one big fraud of a way to give Sting and Nash some face time, then this transfers to the lame storylines list, but for now TNA and the old Wolfpack members have me guessing at what exactly they know and how much they know.

#4. Nexus

2 of 5

Although many mistakes have been made on the Nexus storyline, it is easily the freshest and most entertaining storyline in all of wrestling. It came out of left field and nobody was expecting these rookies to take the WWE by storm. I for one, thought the whole NXT idea was lame and most of these guys didn't deserve contracts as solo wrestlers... But as Nexus they create one of the strongest and entertaining stables to come along in a long time. And thats with the errors WWE has made with Nexus, Just imagine if they would have been given some more creativity and fresh ideas. They would be #1 on the list.

Now aside from some creativity errors, I think the Injury to Skip Sheffield, their second strongest wrestler with his newly enraged muscle-man personality is what doomed them. It's certainly what dropped them to #4 on the list in recent weeks. I think they could still make a huge impact, but the only real route left for them, is if Wade Barrett wins at Night of Champions and they take some new routes as a stable to give them a big boost.

#3. Mr. Money in the Bank

3 of 5

The Miz has always been an annoying character, but now that he has recently been given the spotlight, he has shown off his mic skills on the grandest stages. I love the anonymity on when and where he is going to cash in his briefcase. For the past month this story arch would of made a list for lame storylines because everyone thought and still thinks The Miz is going to be the first MIB winner to lose.

Not only has him becoming "Mr. Money in the Bank" been awesome to watch unravel as he sits at ringside during championship matches but I don't think he's going to lose anymore. I think he's going to lose his U.S. championship to Daniel Bryan at Night of Champions and then I think whoever wins the 6 Pack challenge could get upset by the Miz to end the show.

This opens the door for 6 different Feuds the Miz could start, the most promising being with either Orton or the Nexus leader Wade Barrett. And if Jericho loses this match and leaves, The Miz has proven he would be a promising Jericho replacement.

#2. Abyss - Who Is They?

4 of 5

This is the best storyline in my book and would be #1 if it wouldn't be for the huge possible letdown of this being another conjured up idea in Abyss's head.

At first we all thought "They" were the people in the mind of Abyss. Then we thought "They" were the ECW guys. After that, we were told "They" was Fortune, which kind of made sense. But to find out, it's none of them has excited me and has kept me on my toes. I'm not currently 0% sure of who "They" could be.

It could be Hogan and company which would be a huge curve ball. I mean think about it, Flair gets suspended for brawling with the EV 2.0 guys but Abyss attacks the TNA Champion with a two-by-four filled with nails and still remains on the roster threatening other superstars?

It seems unlikely, considering TNA has been promoting the ECW guys but it could be another new faction headed to TNA. Maybe Someone top secret like dare I say Goldberg. Or maybe a Paul Heyman led faction.

Then again, like I said before, it could just be crazy Abyss being Crazy Abyss. Either Way Abyss has been fun to watch as he's run rampant with Janice on the rest of the TNA wrestlers.

#1. The Brothers of Destruction Feud

5 of 5

We all saw a feud or alliance from these two coming. It turned out to be a feud and since then it has really heated up. Setting the stage for what looks like the Undertaker losing his "supernatural" abilities to Kane. Undertaker has always beaten Kane when it came down to it. But for the first time Kane is getting a little mini push which should probably conclude in what has the potential to be a Match-of-the-year candidate when i assume they will meet at Hell in a Cell.

Listen, this one has been played out many a times. But having Kane in control is fresh and he has been rewarding the WWE with great promo's. Plus let's face it, it's just nice to have the Undertaker back. These two brothers continually put on a great show and bring an evil presence to the ring not seen by any other wrestler other then Abyss.
