Does Barcelona Outcast Ibrahimovic Have What It Takes To Be a Rossoneri Legend?

Mohamed Eldin MasriSep 5, 2010

When it comes to world-class strikers, it doesn't get any better than Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The towering Swede is one of the most gifted technical players on the planet, but that didn't stop him from being blackballed from Barcelona in such an insipid manner.

The Catalan media claims that it was mainly due to Ibrahimovic's failure on his debut season that convinced Barcelona to offload the Swedish target man, this coupled with the fact that he made problems in the dressing room.

Seeing how these are the reports claimed by the media, it's safe to say that the truth is the furthest thing from said reports.

Ibrahimovic scored 21 goals in 44 games in his debut season in a league he has never before experienced. Quite a few of said goals were crucial, such as the controversial goal scored against Madrid at the Nou Camp, which ultimately led to Barcelona retaining La Liga. Claiming that he was a failure is a simply wrong.

He didn't justify the €69 million price tag on his head, but then again no one would've been able to either. Certainly CR7's debut season didn't justify the €93.5 million paid on him; after paying that much money you'd expect him to win you a trophy.

As for the reports claiming trouble making, despite what the credulous Catalan fans believe, the facts just don't mesh. Ronaldinho, Eto'o, and Ibrahimovic—all three of them being declared as people who cause trouble in the dressing room just seems too far-fetched.

Whenever a player gets ostracized by the Catalan giants, the Spanish press makes it sound like they were the devil. Indeed, Ibrahimovic made some ill comments toward Barcelona manager Guardiola, but those comments were declared after Zlatan's departure proved imminent.

The 2009 Serie A Player of the Year stated that Guardioa had been incommunicado for six months, and the irascible manager retaliated in fashion, stating that there's a reason why they haven't spoken in six long months. Ibrahimovic eventually left Barcelona for Milan, stating that Pep Guardiola was the main reason he left the Nou Camp for the San Siro.

Barcelona replacing Ibrahimovic with Villa might prove to be a fatal error, seeing as how the overly-talented, yet less physical Spaniard has joined their ranks instead of the 6'4" Swede, Barcelona now resemble FC Hobbits more than ever, and will struggle with more physical sides such as that of Chelsea.

As for Ibrahimovic, joining AC Milan is yet another achievement for the Swede, who has played in many of the world's greatest clubs. The fans received him with ardent and fervor feelings, and he will be able to inveigle them with his talent and skill.

Ibra is one of the best signings Milan have made in quite a while, a world-class striker with a proven track record in Serie A whowas one of the main reasons why Inter had a firm grip on the Scudetto in previous years. Ibra is a dream come true to Rossoneri fans world wide, especially after Boriello and Huntelaar proved to be despondent throughout their Milan careers.

Another virtue Ibrahimovic offers Milan is the fact that he knows the San Siro by heart. While many players are always forced to get accustomed to their new home ground, Ibrahimovic need only wear the Rossoneri shirt instead of the Neazzuri's, and do his magic. And with the likes of Robinho, Ronaldinho, and Pato, it's safe to say that Ibra's technique will find worthy companions along side him on his Milan adventure.

However, despite Berlusconi acquiring the services of Ibrahimovic and Robinho, Milan's real problem was always their back line. Their midfield is also losing edge with the majority of their midfield on the wrong side of their 30s. While Milan might have one of the strongest attacking sides in Europe, they are yet to fix their real problems.

It remains to be seen whether or not Milan will win a trophy with their talented yet incomplete squad, but it's safe to say that Ibrahimovic's adventure with Il Diavolo is promising to be one for the ages.
