2010 NFL Season: Most Overrated Player
My pick for the most over-rated player in the NFL is Dallas Cowboys quarter back Tony Romo. The Cowboys have been on the cusp of being a Super Bowl caliber team for a few years now, but they just won their first playoff game since 1996. In my honest opinion, I don’t believe Tony Romo can get it done for them. While he has showed flashes of brilliance, he seems to shrivel up in the spot light. And since you can only go as far as your QB will take you in the today’s NFL, he seems to be one of the reasons why the Cowboys can’t get back to the Super Bowl.

Colts Release Kenny Moore

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Take a look at Romo’s playoff performances: 2007 Wild Card game Vs. the Seattle Seahawks. Cowboys lose 21-20, Romo goes 17-29, 189 yards, 1 TD, and 2 fumbles (even though neither was lost). But the moment that will live on in the memory of Cowboy fans was when Martin Gramatica lined up for a 19 yard field goal with 1:19 left to play. For some odd reason, Romo is the holder and he drops the ball while attempting to hold it, Romo fumbles and manages to get to the 2 yard line only to be tackled. The easy field goal would have put the Cowboys up 23-21, instead they went home early. In 2008, after posting a 13-3 regular season record, the Cowboys locked up the #1 seed and looked ready to make a playoff run. Unfortunately for them, their high powered offense sputtered in the 2nd half of the game and after getting a 1st and 10 from the New York Giants 27 yard line with 1:50 to play, the Cowboys failed to pick up a first down and Romo threw a pick in the endzone to end the Cowboy’s season once again. Romo’s final stat line: 18-36, 201 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT.This marked the first time in 20 years that the #1 seed failed to advance to the Conference Championship game. After missing the playoffs in the 2008-2009 season, the Cowboys returned the 2009-2010 season as the #3 seed. The NFC Wild Card game was Romo’s best playoff performance and he did not turn the ball over for the first time in 3 playoff appearances. Romo finished 23-35, 244 yards, 2 TD, and 0 INT against the Philadelphia Eagles this game. While Romo’s stats look impressive, one has to give the much of the credit to the Dallas Cowboy defense. The Cowboys defense suffocated the Eagles and forced the Eagles into 4 turnovers and many 3 and outs that led to great field position for the Dallas Cowboys. Too bad the Cowboys couldn’t carry this type of performance to Minnesota the following week. Romo looked abysmal thanks to the stifling Vikings defense. Romo finished this game with the following stat line: 22-35, 198 yards, 0 TD, 1 INT, 3 Fumbles, 2 Fumbles lost. Romo had 3 costly turnovers in this game and the Cowboys were sent home with their tails between their legs as they lost 34-3. With this loss, Romo dropped to 1-3 in the playoffs.
While Romo has continued to improve in the regular season, he has a lot of work ahead of him in order to improve his playoff performances. While he doesn’t go to Mexico to party with his girlfriend and teammate in playoff bye weeks (anymore), Romo still continues to struggle late in the season. Every season his struggles seem to start in December, in 17 career games played in December Romo has an 80.3 QB rating which is the lowest rating of all the months. Romo only completes 61.3% percent of his passes, has 21 TDs, 20 INTs, and 15 fumbles (5 of which were lost) in December. The bottom line is that Romo continues to be talked about as one of the league’s top QBs but has yet to justify these talks. He is not in the same category of Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, or Brett Favre. Hell, I’d even take Phillip Rivers, Ben Rothlisberger, and Eli Manning over Tony Romo. And until Romo produces in the post season it will continue to stay that way. Until Romo stops choking in big games, he will continue to be one of the league’s most overrated players.
This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.
