Baltimore Ravens Acquire Former Maryland DB Josh Wilson

Shae CroninAug 31, 2010

The Baltimore Ravens have acquired fourth-year defensive back Josh Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a conditional 2011 draft pick.

As a former second-round pick of the 2007 NFL Draft, Wilson brings the versatility to play cornerback and/or return kicks. Listed at 5’9", 192 pounds, Wilson has played in 40 career games (24 starts), posted 124 tackles, and picked off six passes (three of which were returned for touchdowns). As a returner, Wilson has returned 94 kickoffs for 2,350 yards (25.0 avg.) and one touchdown.

“Josh is someone who has started a lot of games for a young player, plus he has been a good special teams player both as a kick returner and in coverages,” said team general manager Ozzie Newsome. “He adds depth to our secondary and will help us. Pending his physical, we expect Josh to be taking snaps against the Jets on opening night.”

Wilson will fit in well with the Ravens, joining former college teammate Domonique Foxworth.

“He’s an extremely fiery and aggressive player, and I think he’s very talented,” said Foxworth. “I know his personality fits into what we’re building here. Josh is a no-nonsense type of guy that fits in with this defense and what it means to be a Raven. Off the field, he is a high-integrity guy.  He’s a family man, who is very smart and community-minded.”

This is another great move by Ozzie Newsome and the Ravens’ front office. Often overlooked, Newsome is a top-level executive.
