Tim Tebow Watch: Pittsburgh Steelers Vs. Denver Broncos Live Blog

Brian DiTullioAug 29, 2010

Welcome to the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Denver Broncos Live Blog. I'm Brian DiTullio, NFL Featured Columnist. I'll be watching and commenting on the game. The starters are expected to play the entire first half, and possibly into the third quarter.

The game should be an interesting one from a quarterback standpoint for both teams, so sit back and enjoy. I'll be commenting as we go.

Game Over, 34-17 Broncos. Tebow looked pretty good for a rookie and the Steelers showed Tomlin he has a lot of work to do this week. Thanks for reading, and we'll see you next time.

Another go-nowhere drive by the Steelers and the Broncos almost ran the punt back.

Somebody screwed up and the Denver secondary puts another six points on the board. There's no other way to look at this from a Steelers fan standpoint as anything other than a mess. Outside of Roethlisberger, there hasn't been a lot of positives to the Steelers offense.

Quinn is unable to move the offense, something Cleveland fans were used to seeing.

Quinn now is back in the game, and non-Broncos fans on the East Coast probably are going to bed.

Charlie Batch doesn't do anything but lead the Steelers to a touchdown. Expect Leftwhich to be looking for a new job at this point.

Dwyer makes another great run. The Steelers are going to need help in their running game, so this is good news for Steelers fans.

Touchdown, Tebow to Decker!! Broncos fans are smiling right now.

Once again, the Broncos are marching down the field, and Tebow is a major factor in this. He' not rushing or panicking.

Tebow is still on the field, so why they're interviewing a former ref right now is beyond me.

Dwyer scores the Steelers first touchdown of the night! Leftwhich is having no success with his passing game, so handing off the ball probably was a good choice.

In between the Hines Ward interview that's putting me to sleep, Tebow throws a really bad interception. The receiver didn't do anything to help, but that was a bad throw.

The offense is being completely shut down by the Denver defense. The Broncos are in the backfield before the ball is barely snapped. Tebow is headed back out.

END OF THIRD QUARTER: Denver continues to easily dominate the game, but this is going to mean less and less as the backups come in.

For the Steelers, Leftwhich hasn't shown much reason why he should be any threat to start for the team over Dennis Dixon. That's said with the cavaet that Dixon isn't exactly lighting up the world, either.

Leftwhich just gets the handoff to Jonathan Dwyer, who makes a good showing.

The Broncos defense gives up their first big penalty and Leftwhich gets another chance.

Tebow throws a ball that Decker should've caught and the Broncos have to settle for a field goal. It's interesting to note Quinn hasn't seen the field other than to fill-in for Orton while he was being tended to on the sideline.

Tebow is looking poised and confident behind the line. You can critique his throwing motion, but he doesn't have that "deer in the headlights" look you see in a lot of rookie quarterbacks.

Tebow is moving the chains with two straight completions. Not sure who is in for the Steelers in the secondary, but most of the starters probably are out by now.

Tebow is headed back onto the field while the ref tries to figure out which way he's supposed to point for the penalty.

Another Bronco shaken up, but he looks like he's ok. The Steelers are unable to convert on third down as Byron Leftwich goes three-and-out.

The announcers start the "throwing motion" debate. Yeah, we'll be listening to that every time Tebow picks up the ball for the next few years.

Tebow makes a great throw, 12-yard completion. Great way to ease back into the game. He immediately follows that up with a horrible throw and the Broncos have to punt.

Tim Tebow has arrived, angels are singing and the crowd is going nuts.

The offensive line lets the team down as Dixon is swarmed by about 1,000 guys in purple and orange. Hey, it's preseason, it was a good call.

Dixon made a great pass on third and long and call timeout on fourth and short. It's preseason, GO FOR IT!! I want a sound effect played every time a team goes for it on fourth down from the old Sega Genesis football game, the voice that always said, "I can't believe it!"

Hines Ward makes a good catch, much to the annoyance of everyone who hates Hines Ward. Dixon makes a great scramble for 29 yards. He needs to make things like this happen more often to be effective behind this line.

Tim Tebow is shown warming up. Everyone get ready for the crazy!

The injury bug seems to be stinging the Broncos today. They got away with one with Orton, so let's hope this is nothing serious.

The Broncos defense opens the half by destroying the Steelers offensive line. They follow that up by giving up a big pass. You win some, you lose some.

END OF SECOND QUARTER: The Steelers defense was slow to awaken, but once it did, they were effective at shutting down the passing game. That being said, four personal fouls in one half is unacceptable for a first team unit.

Roethlisberger continued to prove he can be effective behind a weak offensive line and Dixon showed why he's a backup and not a starter.

On Denver's end, Orton is showing the Denver Brass and fans he intends to earn his contract extension money and the Denver defensive line is doing a good job despite not having Elvis Dumervil.

Dixon is intercepted with a pick-six by Andre Goodman. It was a great play by Goodman, there wasn't much Dixon could do about it.

Dixon is sacked by Ayers. Good play by the defense.

Orton is intercepted by William Gay as the Steelers secondary comes to life after being absent for the first quarter and part of the second. Dixon is moving the offense a little better now.

Dixon survives a no-call on the hit, which is too bad because the pass was incomplete and a personal foul would've given the Steelers a first down.

Flozell Adams is really hurting what already is a patchwork offensive line with the false starts. Meanwhile, Parrish Cox continues to make his coaches look good.

Steelers' secondary finally showed up, Orton has to throw a pass out of bounds, the drive is stalled and the Broncos have to settle for a field goal.

Broncos commit offensive pass interference, it really is their first big mistake on offense in the game. Overall, Head Coach Josh McDaniels should be pleased with what he's seen so far.

And the Steelers defense has committed its fourth personal foul. They're starting to melt down and Tomlin looks like he's going to kill Lewis.

Orton to Royal is going to be a familiar refrain for Broncos announcers this season. These two look great. Where is the Steelers' secondary?

Orton is back in the game, but I don't expect him to stay long. Re-inserting him probably was more a way to shut everyone up than anything else at this point. The Steelers defense continues to be sloppy and rough. Brandon Lloyd made a spectacular catch, but he was out of bounds.

Parrish Cox makes a great play, intercepting Dixon in the end zone. The Broncos are looking a lot sharper than the Steelers so far.

And the Steelers offensive line makes me eat my words by providing some good protection.

The Steelers very thin offensive line isn't doing Dixon any favors. The difference between his ability to make plays despite the holes and Roethlisberger's ability are like night and day. The Steelers are in big trouble this year if Roethisberger gets the full six weeks.

Brady Quinn has entered the game and is quickly sacked. The Steelers defense finally is showing some signs of life. Then again, they're used to sacking Brady Quinn from his time in Cleveland.

Wow! What a play, a catch and fumble now ruled incomplete. Orton is hurt. This could be bad.

Roethlisberger out, Dennis Dixon is in. He is unable to keep the drive going and Denver takes over.

END OF FIRST QUARTER: So far the Broncos have shown a very efficient offense while the Steelers defense is giving their fans major heartburn. Roethlisberger is moving his offense, but only was able to get a field goal out of his big drive.

Again it's Roethlisberger to Mendenhall. It's working, so there's no reason to complain, but the screen pass was a nice way to switch things up.

The Steelers can not stop the Broncos so far. They are passing and running at-will against what is supposed to be one of the league's better defenses. Tomlin has some work to do.

Orton still moving the Broncos offense. Against the Steelers first team defense, I expected a little more out of the Steelers secondary.

The Steelers' drive stalled after some miscues by Roethlisberger and the receivers. Not a good sign, but there are three points on the board, making the score 7-3 Broncos.

Mendenhall is getting reps, which could mean Tomlin may focus the team on more of a ground attack until Roethlisberger returns.

Roethlisberger takes the field to a chorus of boos and promptly throws the ball for a huge gain. Mendenhall follows that up with a decent run.

TOUCHDOWN BRONCOS! LenDale White did a lot of good work on this drive.

James Farrior is shaken up and we head to commercial. The first drive so far has shown the Broncos aerial attack has legs and that the Steelers first team defense isn't as disciplined as it should be.

Lendale runs to the right and gets nothing, followed by another great completion by Orton. More penalties by the Steelers, not a good start for the Steelers defense, which is supposed to be their strong point this year.

Orton to Royal for 18 yards plus a penalty, the Steelers defense is better than this.

And we're off! Tomlin was very diplomatic in his pregame comments, no surprise there. Bad kickoff by Sepulveda. Orton taking the field.

8:00 p.m.: The broadcast is now live and they opened with Roethlisberger apologizing. Interesting way to open the broadcast, not sure I would've went that route, though. I'd probably focused on the Tebow story since he has DOMINATED Internet searches.

Now it makes sense, per Jay Glazer's report that Roethlisberger's suspension length will be determined after next week's preseason game.

The game is a few minutes away from starting, and the newswires are all quiet. It should be interesting to see how much playing time Ben Roethlisberger gets in light of the "dress rehearsal" aspect of preseason game three when factoring in his suspension.

7:40 p.m.:  Now hearing Tebow is suited up and will see some playing time. Hopefully that's how things play out.

No word on if Tim Tebow will make an appearance at 7:30 p.m.
