2010 Fantasy Football Roundup: A Look At The Week 3 Aftermath

Ray TannockAug 28, 2010

With the third week of preseason finishing up today, we inch closer and closer to the regular NFL season. And with each passing week, we continue to become inundated with player news.

There are still plenty of Fantasy drafts out there, which means anything coming off the information wire is paramount as each of you get ready to build that perfect team.

Let’s take a quick look at the latest news and headlines gaining interest this fine Saturday morning, shall we?

Got your coffee?

The Infirmary:

  • WR DeSean Jackson hurt his neck in last night’s contest between the Eagles and Chiefs but is said to be fine and should be ready to go in Week one…so draft on kiddies, draft on. Jackson sustained the same injury that WR Michael Crabtree suffered a few weeks ago. His injury cost him 10 days.
  • RB Clinton Portis suffered a sprained ankle against the Jets Friday night, but the severity of the injury was not yet known at the time of this article. This is great news because it serves warning to those of you who are as crazy as Shanny to actually think this guy is going to last a full year, even if he is 29. He makes for interesting waiver fodder, but considering the crop of RBs this year, Portis is basically non-existent.
  • WR Donnie Avery is done for the 2010 season with a torn ACL which sends a couple of different waves through the fantasy world. Avery wasn’t looked at as much of a fantasy option at wideout, but his loss will still have a negative effect on QB Sam Bradford.

Even so, Laurent Robinson takes over as the team’s primary receiver, and there is still some fantasy intrigue surrounding Danny Amendola, and Brandon Gibson, so put them on your map when it comes time to scour the waiver wire.
  • For anyone wondering about TE Vernon Davis’  knee injury, all signs are pointing toward a green light for opening day. Davis hurt his knee in the preseason opener, and while he hasn’t played in any preseason games—and probably won’t—he is still safe to draft.

Odd And Ends From Around The League:

The Eagles and Chiefs continue to struggle in preseason showing more inconsistency in their playmaking which is very nervous news for fantasy owners thinking of targeting players such as Kevin Kolb, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, or even Dwayne Bowe. The upside to a struggling team is the running backs and Tight ends stand to benefit greatly in the early goings, making Jamaal Charles and Brent Celek tasty options…not that they weren’t already.

The Green Bay Packers are looking more and more like they are in mid-season form, after the beat down they handed Indianapolis earlier this week. One interesting mention for those of you in IDP leagues is the rising star in DB Morgan Burnett. Burnett is looking more and more as if he will begin the season at SS.

The coaching staff raves about this guy, but in the fantasy world, he is getting no ADP love which means you can pull off one of the greatest steals in history if you find him in the later rounds. He is also a fantastic Dynasty league pickup as well.

As if the entire Brett Favre fiasco wasn’t confusing enough for fantasy owners, the team just had to go out and sign WR Javon Walker and WR Greg Camarillo to sure up a heavily depleted WR corp.

OK it isn’t as confusing as it looks, really. Walker was a premier receiver at one time in his career, but he’ll be lucky to even make the 53 man roster, and even if he does, he isn’t worth a squirt in fantasy.

Greg Camarillo, on the other hand, has a ton of intrigue surrounding him and could make for a nice steal in the back end of your draft.

Camarillo isn’t the fastest car on the road, but he is definitely one of the most reliable receivers out there. Camarillo was targeted 73 times last year and didn’t drop a single ball, and the Vikings are leaning more and more toward playing him out of the slot which makes him a quality consideration in PPR leagues.

Hey guys, if you are looking for an inexpensive Draft Guide that is also fully customizable, please click here. It’s actually pretty cool, and deserves a look either way if you have some time.

Good Luck to everyone this year.
