25 Sports Venues You Have To Visit Before You Die
It is interesting to see how far we've come.
At one point we crammed ourselves onto the hillsides to watch games. Standing room only was really the only option. If you missed a play, there weren't any giant Television screens to show you what happened.
Bathrooms consisted of a tree and foliage.
Look how far we've come.
Now we have so many toilets we don't what to do with them.
We've got three jumbotrons the size of the average home in every stadium and more seats than most teams can fill.
All 25 of these stadiums are unique in their own way and are often the most modern venues you can find.
Please enjoy.
and while your at it, please check out my website Rip City Report

New Yankee Stadium
1 of 27
Yankee Stadium is easily a top five American Sports Venue and now that the Old Yankee Stadium has been demolished, you must go see a ballgame at the modern day marvel that is the New Yankee Stadium.
As one of the best sports venues in the world, you would expect it to be expensive.
And it is.
The estimated cost for construction was $1.5 Billion and can seat up to 52,325 spectators, making it one of the best venues in the World.
Yankee stadium is the third most expensive venue ever built.
Top of the line for Yankee fans.

Old Trafford has history and a very successful history at that.
As the home for Manchester United, Old Trafford has been the spotlight for the biggest of stages and the platform for some of the most moving events.
Constructed in 1909 for the price of 90,000 pounds, the stadium has been consistently retooled to make it an enjoyable place to watch and play a football match.
These constant renovations have kept the 101 year old stadium looking new and refreshed.
and considering the size and compact nature of England, that is their only option.
The history with the Manchester United club and the winning culture within their organization make Old Trafford one of the best places for true sports fans to travel to.
The Rose Bowl
3 of 27
Ground was broke in 1921 and the venue was opened October 8th, 1922.
Everything since that date has been a huge chunk of American Sports History.
Home of the Rose Bowl game, a match that consists of the Pac 10 Champion and the Big 10 champion, making it one of the biggest stages you can play on.
It is also one of the biggest stadiums in the United States at 92,542 seats.
All of these things make it a must do for sports fans.

La Bombonera

The stadium was constructed with the name of Alberto J. Armando Stadium in 1940. But was inaugurated as 'Coliseo de la Boca'.
Eventually, as fans passed through the doors, it was nicknamed 'la Bombonera' and it stuck.
Located in Buenos Aires, La Bombonera is the home to many football matches and it is a very popular venue for fans and players alike.

Ali Sami Yen Stadium

This Turkish facility had a rough beginning to say the least.
On the very first day that this field was opened to the public for sporting events, the Turkish team Galatasaray was their first home match in league play.
On of the stands, filled with spectators, ended up collapsing and injuring hundreds of people. Fortunately no one was killed, but the players must have thought their home field was cursed after that incident.
But that day in December of 1964 will be remembered by many for the accident and not the game.
The reason you should travel and watch a game at this stadium is because of the fans.
They are raucous to say the very, very least.
The team allows, or rather doesn't ban, torches, drums, trumpets, giant flags, Bonfires, excess of alcohol, and Smoke grenades.
and the fans are right on top of the field to boot.
The beers are 25 cents a pop, the fans are wild, and it is just one giant party for 90 minutes.
Camp Nou
6 of 27
As the largest stadium in Europe at 98,787 spectators and the home of FC Barcelona, Camp Nou has been the home to many of the biggest games in European Football by default.
In fact, during the 1982 World Cup, Camp Nou had enough seats for 121,749 fans.
Throughout FC Barcelona's history as a football club, there has been a winning culture.
They may have struggled from time to time, but they stayed relevant. This aspect of Barcelona makes games exciting. Instead of 5,000 celebrities and 15,000 true fans jammed in the upper decks (like at Laker Games), the Barcelona fans are all rabid.
They all care and they are all cheering.
A good atmosphere equals a good fan experience.
Even if you don't care about the sport they are playing.

Estadio Azteca
7 of 27
For Mexican soccer fans, Estadio Azteca is the epitome of football.
It is a sacred land, home of the Mexican National Team from time to time and the permanent home for Club America.
This stadium was constructed in 1961 and renovated in 1985 and since it is in Mexico city, the Home team always has the upper hand.
Smog makes the air hard on the immune system and the high altitude leaves players with very little oxygen.
So combine the Smog, which basically gives players less clean air to breath, and then the thin air of the high altitude, giving the players less oxygen to use, then add in the 100,000 screaming fans throwing torches and starting flares while the game is going.
Well, you have one of the best home field advantages in sports.

(Bonus) Rungrado May Day Stadium
8 of 27
This is the largest non-auto racing venue in the world, seating around 150,000 spectators.
But that isn't even the most shocking part of it.
Besides that the stadium is in North Korea, the most secretive dictatorship in modern day society, this particular venue has been used by the North Korean Soccer team as well as other national sports teams.
Still not there.
Rungrado May Day Stadium has been used to carry out executions. Let me just quote a discription made by the people at Wikipedia:
"In the late 1990s, a number of North Korean army generals implicated in an assassination attempt on Kim Jong-il were executed by being burned alive in the stadium.
It was also the venue in which Kim Jong-Il in 2000 entertained Madeleine Albright, the U.S. Secretary of State under President Bill Clinton."
Talk about silencing the opponent.
But that alone doesn't completely cover all the creepiness.
The stadium was built for the "World Festival Of Youth and Students".
It was for the children.
That and to celebrate labor on May Day
Workers of the World Unite! (Sarcasm, I don't intend on unintentionally bringing on another communist movement)
So it started out for the Children.
Then it was for Communism.
Then it was football and the Mass Games.
Now it is used to entertain high profile celebrities and to torture/execute those accused of treason.
Weird.
Here is another quote:
"While the stadium is used for sporting events, it is most famous as the site of massive performances and shows celebrating Kim Il-sung and the North Korean nation. In June-July 2002 it was the site of the colossal and meticulously choreographed "Arirang" gymnastic and artistic performance (often referred to elsewhere as "mass games"). The extravaganza involved for the first time some 100,000+ participants—double the number of spectators— and was open to foreigners, a rare occurrence."
Since it has only been open to the public once, then well you can't actually go and visit it.
Thus making it a Bonus.

Fenway Park

As the oldest ballpark in Major League Baseball, you would expect Fenway park to has a rich history.
and it does.
From the Cure of the Bambino to the drastic attendance drops in 1965, in which the team was only averaging 500 spectators a game.
In 1999, the Red Socks management toyed around with the idea of demolishing Fenway all together. But the outcry from the fan groups was just too much and they dropped the idea completely.
After that things got better.
Obviously highlighted by the 2004 when the Red Socks broke the Curse Of The Bambino and won the World Series for the first time in 86 years.
Since then, the Red Socks have won another Championship, further burying the Curse.
If you are an American Sports fan, this is one place that you must go see.
Lambeau Field

In one man's opinion, Lambeau Field offers the best fan experience in the NFL.
That is, if you can handle freezing temperatures shirtless with 'Packers' written across your chest.
The Frozen Tundra isn't the most modern.
It isn't all that big or exciting.
I mean, it only has two jumbo trons.
But what Lambeau does offer is a unique fan player relationship that very few other fields can offer.
The Lambeau Leap is a big part of that, but it isn't all of it.
The fans are very close to the field.
If I am a Sports fan, and I am, Lambeau field has to be near the top of my list.
Yas Marina Circuit

Yas Marina makes this list because it is an engineering marvel.
My words don't do this racetrack justice. They just do not.
Beaver Stadium

Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions, is the second largest non-racing venue in the United States.
With the first largest being Michigan Stadium.
The reason I chose Beaver Stadium over Michigan stadium is because of the teams recent success.
Michigan has stunk it up the past couple of years while Penn State has played consistently well over that time. But it is not like I would not recommend a visit to Michigan stadium, but winning equals a good atmosphere.
Losing sucks.

The second largest non-racing facility is not an engineering marvel.
It isn't spectacularly dressed up, nor is it all that modern. But the fan experience is just awesome and if you catch a night game, the sunset is supposed to be one of the best in the world.
Fans ultimately show up for cricket matches, but are equally enthused about their football teams.
It is not uncommon for fans to bring drums and trumpets to games, making the noise almost ear splitting.
Tiger Stadium (LSU)

I've heard many times that, as a College Football player, there is no place more difficult to play at than in Baton Rouge.
The fans love God first, but a close second is their football.
With the Nickname of Death Valley, it isn't hard to paint a picture of the ferocity in the Louisiana State University fan base. They are just that intense.
In fact, in 1988 after LSU quarterback Tommy Hodson completed the game winning touchdown pass to then starting quarterback Eddie Fuller the crowd registered a small earthquake with the resonance of their cheers.
This tremor was actually recorded on a seismograph.
Oita Stadium

This has to be one of the coolest stadiums in the world.
and since it took three years to complete, expectations were most definitely high for many Japanese Sports fans and I believe they delivered.
During the 2002 World Cup, this stadium hosted two different matches and was a big hit amongst fans and players alike.
A must see if you happen to be in Japan.
Cowboys Stadium
16 of 27
The fact that this stadium has room for 111,000 fans is the least remarkable part about this particular venue.
Jerry Jones has money, and in this case he wasn't afraid to overspend.
The new Dallas Stadium is clearly the most modern stadium in the National Football League. It has the largest high definition screen in the world, a screen that dangles from the rafters and spans from the 20 yard line to the 20 yard line.
It is that big.
Not only does it have the biggest Television screen, Dallas Cowboys stadium is also the largest domed stadium in the World.
Just with the cool factor alone, I would recommend visiting this venue at least once in your lifetime.

Wembley
17 of 27
Wembley stadium is not only a sporting icon for the country of England, but it is a sporting platform for the world eyes. The New Wembley stadium replaces the old Wembley seeing as it was built directly on top of the old stadium.
The old stadium had history dating back to 1923, but new Wembley is more modern and the complete overhaul is refreshing.
This is like replacing old Yankee Stadium with what is now new Yankee Stadium.
Even if you have never been to a football match, I would recommend starting your fan hood in England, at new Wembley.

New Meadowlands Stadium
18 of 27
I'm not a big fan of sharing stadiums with anther team, especially when that team is a hometown rival.
But if that is what it takes to get a new, modern, and expensive venue like New York has developed, well then so be it.
This stadium is home to both The New York Giants and the New York Jets and has only recently been opened for games. In terms of the facilities, they are the best in the league.
As the stadium ages, the appeal will vanish. So if you are going to watch a game there, the sooner the better.

Marina Bay stadium
19 of 27
Possibly the most unique stadium in the World. The field sits about 30 feet away from land within one of the ports of Singapore. Marina Bay stadium actually is a stadium, with seats about 50 feet away from the field and a capacity of around 30,000 people.
Truly an interesting concept.
one that I would recommend seeing in person if given the chance.

The Faroe Island's (Stadium?)
20 of 27
Not really sure what to call this one.
So i'll give you a brief explanation of it and let you decide.
The Faroe Islands are located between the Norwegian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean about halfway between Scotland and Iceland.
Apparently the National team of both Scotland and Iceland occasionally play football matches here.
So is it a stadium? Or is it just a field?
There is very limited seating and the facilities are not all that modern, but heck, I'd love to play there everyday.
Definitely a must see.

Situated between a rock and a hard place (literally), this stadium is perfect for producing great acoustics.
Can you imagine playing games with a hundred foot canyon edge at one end of the field?
I'm guessing it would feel pretty weird.
Of course there is also a large lake less than 300 feet away from the stadium walls.
Yeah, no big deal.

Osaka Stadium

Ok, so this stadium doesn't exist anymore because it was just recently demolished. But It is just too cool to not share.
Apparently, as I know the story, the Stadium was closed because it was outdated. But while they were searching for a new location to build a new venue, a housing company bought the land and decided they would showcase some of their new homes inside of the walls.
So... Well, the picture explains all I can.

Landsdowne Road Stadium
23 of 27
Possibly one of the greatest engineering marvels I have ever seen. There is no very much information about the stadium itself, although we do know that it seats around 50,000 people and will be very expensive.
The naming rights have been sold to Aviva and they will call the new field Aviva Stadium.
Aviva Stadium is located in Dublin Ireland.

Beijing National Stadium

Really one of coolest designs I have seen in recent years. Built for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the stadium has mainly been used for Football matches, including English Premier League Showcases and Italian League opening games.

Qi Zhong Stadium

The intent of the design in this particular stadium, was to fabricate a roofing design that no one has done yet and that would blow the mind.
I think they accomplished those two things in Qi Zhong stadium.
Supporting outdoor tennis matches with the roof off and basketball matches with the roof covering the field, this particular stadium makes for a versatile and unique experience.
Truly an engineering marvel.

Soccer City

Soccer City was only recently constructed for the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa and was designed to look like an African pot from the outside.
As the home of the World Cup final, this venue is considered to be the best and most modern stadium in South Africa. Seating up to 90,000 spectators, none more than 100 meters away from the pitch, the atmosphere is great.
The South Africans are very supportive of their team and it showed every time the South African National Team played in the World Cup.
Soccer City, Now FNB Stadium is considered as the National Team's home venue.
