Super Bowl or Bust: The Five NFL Teams Expecting To Win It All

Geremy GrahamAug 13, 2010

"Super Bowl or bust."

It's a term that can separates the men from the boys in the NFL.

It's a term that separates the teams that want to win right now, versus the teams that accept their rebuilding phase, and expect a mediocre season.

Sometimes when a team receives this label, it can lead to that team's slow destruction through the rigorous NFL season.

Other teams take the label as a privilege, a privilege that must be honored throughout the year.

These teams enjoy the challenge and face it head on, with their minds only on one thing—winning a Super Bowl.

Here are the top five teams with the "Super Bowl or bust" mentality.

Any Given Sunday

1 of 6

Before I begin, here are the teams, besides the Superbowl contenders, to keep an eye on in the 2010 NFL season:

Houston Texans: With Matt Schaub coming off a Pro Bowl season, and Andre Johnson awarded a new contract, look out for this Houston offense.

Atlanta Falcons: Matt Ryan is looking to become one of the premier quarterbacks in the league, and running back Michael Turner is one of the hardest runners in the league. This Atlanta team could turn a few heads this year.

Washington Redskins: Now that Mike Shanahan and Donovan McNabb have the reins in Washington, their luck could turn very quickly.

Green Bay Packers: Aaron Rodgers is looking to lead this team to a couple playoff victories, and that alone is enough to watch out for this Packer team.

Cincinatti Bengals: With the addition of T.O., the Bengals received another passing threat to hopefully open up the outside for Chad Ochocinco. Carson Palmer and the passing game should improve tremendously.

Oakland Raiders: Don't count out the Oakland Raiders. The addition of Jason Campbell is going to be essential, and the incoming draft class is ready to contribute right away.

Miami Dolphins: Brandon Marshall is looking for his fourth straight NFL season with 100+ catches, and it's going to happen as Chad Henne is improving under Bill Parcells.

San Francisco 49ers: The 49ers are finally Alex Smith's team, and he is ready to lead this franchise to a winning season. Frank Gore is one of the top five running backs in the NFL, and they will hand it off  to him early and often.

New England Patriots: You can be sure Tom Brady is smiling with the return of Wes Welker, and this team is always a team that is capable of winning as long as Bill Belicheck and Tom Brady are working together.

Philadelphia Eagles: Now that Kevin Kolb is the man under center in Philadelphia, he has to prove that he is ready to handle the pressure and criticism that comes with be the franchise quarterback for the Eagles. Of all the players feeling the pressure this upcoming season, Kevin Kolb is feeling the most.

Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler will try to prove he is still capable of making those seemingly impossible throws this season, and with the addition of Julius Peppers on the defense, the Chicago Bears will be a strong team.

Tennessee Titans: Vince Young will have a full season under center, and Chris Johnson will look to make history, again, as he tries to go for two straight seasons with 2,000+ yards rushing.

Minnesota Vikings

2 of 6

Because Brett Favre will be back this season, the Minnesota Vikings are immediately a Superbowl contender.

He brings leadership and confidence to any team he plays for, and this year, the Vikings will be more confident than ever.

It also doesn't hurt that Adrian Peterson is in the backfield either. The debate rages on about who is the best running back in the league, but whether it's Chris Jouhnson or Adrian Peterson doesn't matter.

Adrian Peterson can dominate opposing defenses, and that's all that matters.

With Brett Favre returning with Superbowl on his mind, the Minnesota Vikings will expect nothing less.

This team is very talented, and now know what it feels like to play in an NFC championship game.

They can only improve after a tremendous 2009 season, and a Brett Favre return will only give them the confidence needed to win the Superbowl this year.

New York Jets

3 of 6

Advances have been made in the Darrelle Revis talks, as his agent has cleared the air for the time being.

This could be a step in the right direction for the New York Jets finally coming to an agreement with arguably the best cornerback in the NFL.

When Revis signs, the New York Jets will have all that they need to make it to the Superbowl with hopes of taking it home to New York.

The addition of veterans Jason Taylor and Ladainian Tomlinson proves the New York Jets are looking to win right now.

Teams that put together the necessary players in order to win, and win now, make for the best contenders to win a Superbowl.

With Revis, the final piece to the puzzle on defense, and Sanchez, the important piece on offense, this New York Jets team will be locked and loaded for this 2010 NFL season.

Indianapolis Colts

4 of 6

Peyton Manning always has Superbowl on his mind.

He is the colonel of his team, and he is always capable of taking the Indianapolis Colts the distance.

I'm sure the interception against the New Orleans Saints in last year's Superbowl that lost them the game is driving Peyton to perform even better this year.

Peytong has his team focused, and the Colts return most of their roster which took them to the Superbowl last year, and there will be nothing less than a goal of making it back this year.

If anything, the loss last year could be the driving force that assures this team a trip back to the Superbowl, but this time to win.

Their offense is among the best in the league, and now with Bob Sanders back in the lineup at safety, the defense just got that much better.

Peyton Manning is hungry for his second Superbowl trophy, and the rest of the Colts team are right behind him.

Dallas Cowboys

5 of 6

Perhaps the number one team with the "Superbowl or bust" mentality is the Dallas Cowboys.

Dallas has the spotlight on Tony Romo, who will have to lead this team flawlessly this year in order to live up to the hype surrounding the Cowboys.

Will the pressure do the Cowboys more bad than good?

We'll see. But at this point, the Cowboys are confident in the loads of talent on their roster, and they will look to win the toughest division in football, the NFC East, followed by the Superbowl.

Dez Bryant will look to recover from his sprained ankle, and return to his top form that he showed during training camp.

He will prove to be a very good player in the NFL.

The Cowboys have talent on both sides of the ball, and will be a scary matchup for any team in the NFL.

New Orleans Saints

6 of 6

Maybe it's too much to expect another Superbowl victory from the New Orleans Saints.

They're satisfied with one, right?

Wrong.

Drew Brees and the rest of the "Who Dat" nation will be expecting a return to the Superbowl, and another victory parade in New Orleans.

This team returns the key players that brought them a Superbowl championship last year, and Greg Williams will have his team focused ready to defend their title.

It's always a test of a team's character after they've already won a Superbowl. The next year, will they play hard to defend it, or will they shatter and break down like most other teams do after a Superbowl victory?

This Saints team is special, and there will be little that can stop them from repeating the dream season that united the New Orleans nation last year.
