The Revis Chaos.
Darelle Revis has held out of the New York Jets training camp for 11 days now and there seems to be no end in sight. Even owner Woody Johnson made an ominous statement predicting that he doesn’t expect Revis to suit up for the Jets this season. While both the Jets and Revis’ agents seem to push for a deal getting done sooner rather than later, they are still far from completing such a deal.
The Jets have made Revis an offer of $120 million over 10 years, but Revis’ side has pushed for a deal similar to Nnamdi Asomugha’s contract. The Oakland Raiders 29 year old cornerback is set to make close to $16 million in guaranteed money for the 2010 season. With that thought in mind, it can be interpreted that the 25 year old Revis is seeking a 10 year deal worth about $160 million. This amount just seems a bit out of reach of the Jets and a compromise between the two sides needs to be reached soon. And the negotiations don’t seem to be going too well for either side. Revis’ side has called the Jets liars in the media and the Jets’ have fired back as well. Coach Rex Ryan has even said he would cancel practice to have all of Revis’ teammates be present at the contract negotiations so everyone knows what is truly being said. In the midst of all this mudslinging the Jets’ best defensive player is not practicing with his team gearing up for the regular season and that is just a shame.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
While the Jets are pulling for their teammate to join them soon, Revis is doing what is best for his family and himself. The shelf-life for a football players these days is never guaranteed and they need to make their money when they can. Revis is 25 and is already being called the best cornerback in the game today by many analysts. Why not cash in when he can? Because as soon as a player shows signs of slowing down or gets injured, the team will not hesitate to cut him to save some extra cash. The player reserves that right to holdout to get that raise they deserve.
Given the circumstances of the NFL today I can’t fault Revis for his actions but I would like to see him where he belongs, out on the football with his teammates. The Jets have made a few good moves this off season and seem to be in position to contend with the Patriots, Colts, and Chargers. It would be a shame if the Jets would be without their best defensive weapon to shut-down some of the best receivers in the league like Randy Moss, Reggie Wayne, and Vincent Jackson. While the Jets defense has other studs, Revis would greatly be missed. I’m sure all Jets’ fans are hoping and praying for a deal to get done soon. As a football fan, I’m hoping for all sides to come to a compromise in the near future.
This is just an opinion…so please Pardon My Bias.
