NFL Two-A-Days: Green Bay Packers 2010 Season Preview

Ryan FryeAug 12, 2010

This idea originated from ESPN's Mike & Mike. I will now preview the Green Bay Packers.

1.) Is Aaron Rodgers currently better than the "The Immortal" Brett Favre?

This is very close, but I'd take Rodgers. The numbers were pretty much identical in 2009. I like Rodgers because you know he's going to healthy, unlike like Favre with his ankle. Rodgers is the second best QB in the NFC, behind Drew Brees. I know this question is right now, but Rodgers is in his prime and Favre is 40.

2.) Can the Packers' offensive line tighten up the pass protection?

In the second half last season, this group improved. Now they bring in Brian Bulaga, who is the classic Packer. Bulaga probably will not start right away, rather be groomed by Chad Clifton. They should be fine, but it's a question mark.

3.) Is the emerging Jermichael Finley one of the league most underrated players?

He had 55 receptions and over 600 yards in a breakout year (2009). He will become the go-to guy for Aaron Rodgers. He has all the skills to become one of the NFL's best tight ends in 2010.

4.) Is Green Bay's defense as good as last year's numbers indicate?

All the numbers were great. Dom Capers came in and switched the scheme to a 3-4. This year you lose Aaron Kampman (free agency) and Johnny Jolly to suspension. B.J. Raji will find himself starting at defensive end, but will also play some nose tackle. Ryan Pickett will be the man in the middle. Pickett has adjusted well to the 3-4, he can handle double teams perfectly. Cullen Jenkins looked lost in the 3-4 defense, he's a much better fit in the 4-3.

This will be Justin Harrell's last shot to impress. Nick Barnett will look better since he was coming of a knee injury. Clay Matthews looked great as a rookie. A.J. Hawk and Desmond Bishop will compete for one of the inside linebacking spot. Bishop has been the more impressive one thus far. The secondary is looking very solid as well.

Al Harris may start the season on the PUP list but should return afterwards. Tramon Williams will hold down the spot until Harris returns. Charles Woodson might have been the second best cornerback in the league in 2009. Nick Collins and Atari Bigby did well at the safety spots. Overall, I think this defense should stay near the top of the NFL.

5.) Record?

12-4, first in the NFC North. I also have the Packers taking home field advantage in the playoffs for the NFC.
