NFL Predictions for 2010 Season: AFC East Preview

Wesley KaminskyAug 8, 2010

The AFC East is one of the most intriguing divisions in the NFL, with it being potentially a three team race.

I have been predicting each division in the league, and with the AFC East, I am really unsure as to what will happen.

Here are my predictions for the AFC East.

No. 4 - Buffalo Bills

1 of 4

The Bills are in trouble this season. Big, big trouble.

With an unproven quarterback, and a bad offensive line, the Bills have giant question marks on their team. I still cannot understand why this team did not draft Jimmy Clausen. If they really do believe in Trent Edwards, than this is his year to show he can play.

In this years draft, the Bills surprised many people by taking running back C.J. Spiller out of Clemson. He gives them someone who is very explosive, but was it their biggest need? After drafting Spiller, they failed to trade disgruntled running back Marshawn Lynch, and now have three running backs in Spiller, Lynch, and Fred Jackson.

On the plus side of that, they could potentially have a nice three headed monster.

Bills fans, don't expect an enjoyable season. Let the Jake Locker wait begin.

Prediction: 4-12

No. 3 - Miami Dolphins

2 of 4

After a disappointing 2009 season, the Dolphins had a great off-season, picking up Brandon Marshall and Karlos Dansby. Marshall gives second year starter Chad Henne a huge target to throw to.

For the Dolphins to be successful, they need Chad Henne to prove he can be their franchise quarterback. This will be his first full season as a starter, and there is much to be optimistic about him.

The Dolphins will be good, but will they be good enough to win the AFC East?

Prediction: 8-8

No. 2 - New England Patriots

3 of 4

One thing is for sure about the Patriots; never count them out, especially with Tom Brady at the quarterback position. The offense is still dangerous, but the defense is their problem.

In 2009, the Patriots defense got shredded, and their hopes for another super bowl run ended, when they got lit up by the Ravens, 33-14, in Foxborough.

With a fresh season ahead, and a healthy Wes Welker, (hopefully) the Patriots are always a threat.

Prediction: 10-6

No. 1 - New York Jets

4 of 4

After somehow sneaking into the playoffs in 2009, the Jets were dangerous, making it all the way to the AFC championship game, before losing to the Colts.

In the off-season, the Jets did not slow down as they made move, after move. Here are the notable players the Jets acquired this off-season:

Jason Taylor

LaDainian Tomlinson

Antonio Cromartie

Santonio Holmes

The Jets add Taylor and Cromartie to a defense that was already the leagues best. Right now, the biggest question mark on defense is when Darrell Revis will sign.

On the offensive side of the ball, the Jets somehow managed to get Santonio Holmes for just a fifth round pick. Holmes will be suspended the first four games of the year, but after that, he is bound to make a big impact and help out second year quarterback Mark Sanchez.

After also having the best rushing attack in 2009, the Jets added LaDainian Tomlinson, but lost leading rusher Thomas Jones. Tomlinson has looked like he is declining, unlike Jones, who had the best year of his career in 2009.

Overall, a lot can go right for the Jets, but this season could also be a mess. If Tomlinson plays like he did last season with the Chargers, Jets fans will be singing Thomas Jones' praise. Jason Taylor also is not the player he used to be, nor is Cromartie.

It will be an interesting season for the Jets. Is Mark Sanchez good enough to lead this team to the promise land?

Prediction: 11-5
