Chris Johnson, Tennessee Titans (+300) – The Titans workhorse from last season rushed for 2,006 yards and was clearly deserving of MVP recognition in spite of the fact that the Titans didn’t make the playoffs. With QB Vince Young under center, there is going to have to be a man responsible on defense for being a spy at all times. This could open up even more room for the former ECU Pirate. Reaching 2,000 yards once again would be an amazing feat, but it certainly isn’t out of the question.

Adrian Peterson, Minnesota Vikings (+500) – With QB Brett Favre out of the equation and reserve RB Chester Taylor now on the Chicago Bears, the man they call “Purple Jesus” is going to be getting a lot of attention. Rushing the ball 300 times almost seems like a given for this season, and an average of over five yards per carry is a distinct possibility. If he stays healthy, there is going to be virtually no way that Peterson doesn’t end at least in the Top 5 in rushing in the league.

Steven Jackson, St. Louis Rams (+1400) – Jackson might be one of the most talented backs in the league, but his biggest problem is that he is playing for a miserable team. Winning games probably isn’t the ultimate goal in St. Louis this season; keeping QB Sam Bradford healthy and giving him plenty of great reps is. That probably means the former Oregon State Beaver is getting run into the ground. We’ve seen Jackson run for 1,500 yards before in his career, and he is capable of doing it again and again.

Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers (+2500) – This is a tricky bet, but at least seems like a plausible one. It is pretty clear that HC Norv Turner doesn’t believe that RB Darren Sproles can carry the load, so Mathews will be called upon to tote the rock quite a bit. Could that mean 20 carries per game? We think there’s a chance, and if that happens, this rookie could be a sneaky, sneaky selection at these types of football betting odds.

Jahvid Best, Detroit Lions (+6000) – Someone is going to have to run the ball for the Lions this season, and Best was brought in to do just that with some huge explosiveness. Keeping the rookie from Cal healthy is going to be a tough task, but there are going to be plenty of times that Detroit tries to force feed him the pigskin, if for no other reason to take some pressure off the right arm of QB Matt Stafford. It’s a long shot to say the least, but Best might be able to explode onto the scene and make a big difference in the Motor City.
