7-31-10 Z-CAP: Mets Win 5-4 With a Walk-Off Of Their Own
The New York Mets came back from deficits of 1-0 and 4-2 to end their 4 game losing streak against the Arizona Diamondbacks. David Wright had only 5 RBI in his last 20 games but with a 2 for 4, 3 RBI night, the All-Star third baseman now has 8 in his last 2 games to move him to within 4 of NL leader Ryan Howard .
With a single in the bottom of the 5th inning, Jose Reyes extended his hit streak to 13 games while outfielder Angel Pagan continues to rake. After his 3 hit night, Pagan is now 18 for his last 51 (.352 AVG) and as manager Jerry Manuel stated after the game he is having a “tremendous, tremendous season.”

Hisanori Takahashi was absolutely brilliant allowing only 1 ER on a Justin Upton sac fly in the 3rd inning, while striking out a career high 10 batters over 6 inning pitched and was rewarded with a no-decision. It was the first time this season a Mets starter struck out double digit batters in one game as TakaHOTSHOT worked his way out of multiple jams stranding 4 Arizona runners in scoring position.
Diamondback starter Barry Enright (6 IP, 2 ER) exited the game in line for his 3rd win of the season before 4 Arizona relievers allowed 3 ER over 2 2/3 IP leaving Enright with his 1st no decision of the season.
Fransisco Rodriguez pitched a scoreless 9th inning before Juan Gutierrez allowed the game winning run in the bottom of the inning to give K-Rod his 4th win of the season.
Takahashi was relieved in the top of the 7th inning by Bobby Parnell who has been lights out since being called up from AAA Buffalo (18 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 0.96 ERA). Parnell hit his first bump in the road as he loaded the bases with no outs before Justin Upton singled in 2 runs to give the D-Backs a 3-2 lead. It was the second night in a row a Mets reliever entered the game and faced 4 batters and retired none.
