Up Against the Wall: Anderson Silva vs. Chael Sonnen
No secrets here. Grandma Dee always speaks her mind.
My opinion on the upcoming fight between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen is that my favorite man-child fighter, Anderson, will make Chael Sonnen look like the adult who chooses to chastise his child in the middle of a super market.
Huh, you may ask? What on earth is Granny thinking?
I am thinking that out of all the no-win situations in life, trying to make a child do what you desire in a super market always leaves the adult looking bad.
Chael has called out Anderson Silva in the media market of today and treated him like a small child by chastising him and attempting to shame him for statements he has made in response to the probing of the ravenous MMA media.
Sounding very wise and adult, Sonnen has made fun of what he feels are childish responses to questions every fan has the right to ask.
I am on Anderson's side here, and would like to echo his apparent response to this unnecessary invasion of Silva's thinking on the upcoming match by stating: "You ain't the boss of me!"
You can ask a young person (going right through the teen years, in fact), what you believe is something you have every right to know, but chances are, that is the answer you will get.
Anderson has wonderful child-like amazement at his fame. The fortunate fighter has been interviewed by Rachelle Leah, who had fun with Anderson by asking him to dance, chuckling at his Tasmanian Devil house slippers, and being a gracious visitor to Anderson's home.
Anderson responded well to her un-pressured approach to being an interviewer by giving her an honest, un-retouched insider's view of his loves and his life.
Chael Sonnen and the press ask questions and Anderson resists, just like an unruly child being pulled away from the candy display by the cashier's checkout at the store.
Why is Anderson "so difficult?"
He likes to play, and Mr. Big Political Aspirations, Chael Sonnen, is trying to bully him verbally. I am not ashamed to say that I would respond the same way in Anderson's situation.
While Anderson is being truthful in his own opinion, that does not mean that Chael and the media will agree with him.
Training with Steven Seagal prior to his match with Sonnen, was probably a blast for Anderson. What fun! Meeting and sparring with a real action movie star, who once practiced his own brand of Akido in Japan.
What better way to relax and train at the same time?
Just as Anderson loves to emulate the funky fighting style of Roy Jones, Jr. and dance around his bewildered and out classed opponents, I am sure that his fighting with Steven was just what the doctor ordered for the bored superstar of the UFC.
Dana White may be threatening and cracking the whip over his head, but Anderson is who he is and will continue to be, whether boss Dana appreciates it or not.
The fact that many people no longer look at Steven Seagal with admiration at his acting or fighting style, does not mean that Anderson Silva does not respect him, but may reflect, in a way, on how he considers the threat Chael Sonnen actually presents to him. Seagal is physically no challenge to Anderson. Could that have been a metaphorical answer to Sonnen and the presses' inquiry, "how are you preparing for your fight with Chael Sonnen?" and not simply a frivolous answer?
Since I admire Anderson's sense of humor and actually feel he is a very humble man who shows remarkable restraint in his interactions with Dana White, the media, and Chael Sonnen, his current detractor, I greatly appreciate his answers.
Incidentally, as a mother of two sons and now a doting grandmother of four girls and two boys, I have learned from experience to allow a piece of gum or candy to ensure a peaceful exit from the supermarket as opposed to ranting at a child and giving the impression of being one who could very well be a child abuser at home, as well as in a super market and looking like a real ass in the process.
Chael will bear the brunt of Anderson's true response to his abusive tirades when they meet in the cage on August 7.
Gosh! I sure wouldn't want to be him!
