7-27-10 Pre-Game: Mets Vs Cardinals

I’m sure your just as tired of hearing about it as I am of writing about it, but the numbers are so staggering that they are just to hard to ignore. NY is coming off a 2-9 road trip in which they where shut out 4 times and are bringing a 16 inning scoreless streak back home with them to Citi Field.  As Jay pointed out yesterday (Is it August Yet? click  HERE to read full post) the teams July offensive number, have been down right offensive:

I realize our obsession with RISP has reached 12 yr. old girl/Justin Bieber status but the Mets hit a dismal .151 (10 for 66)  in that category during the West Coast trip. The culprits along the way?  Fortunately for the clubhouse there won’t be much finger pointing because the futility at the plate is a true team effort:

In efforts to try and put the blood bath of a road trip behind us we will look ahead as the Mets will head home to play 6 games (3 vs. Cardinals, 3 vs. Arizona), where they are 30-16. New York will send rookie left hander Jonathon Niese to the mound as he continues his campaign towards Rookie of the Year.  Niese is currently 3rd in ERA amongst all rookies with at least 9 starts as you can see in the chart below:
