The New York Mets finished their 11-game (2-9) West Coast road trip by being handed their fourth shutout loss in the process.

The Mets have scored a total of 23 runs (2.0 runs/game) during this trip, and have now been held to four or fewer runs in 15 of their last 16 games (4-12), while hitting a dismal .131 with RISP over that span.

After being held scoreless for their last 16 innings, manager Jerry Manuel spoke about the “road trip from hell” after the game:

It was a tough trip for us, very tough. We didn’t do much offensively. We have to get home, gotta swing the bats, and get back to scoring some runs. I think our pitching has been good. We’ve done a good job pitching, we’ve done a good decent job catching. We just didn’t score any runs.”

Russell Martin provided the games only run with an RBI double in the bottom of the eighth, while Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw pitched eight brilliant shutout innings, allowing only seven hits en route to his 10th win of the season.

L.A. closer Jonathan Broxton was unavailable, so Kenley Jansen pitched a perfect ninth for the save in his major league debut. 

R.A. Dickey was taken out of the game due to injury after pitching five-and-two-thirds scoreless innings, allowing just two hits. Once again, he was given no run support (the struggling offense has scored just two runs in his last three starts).

The knuckleballer fell awkwardly after making a 0-1 pitch to Dodger catcher Russell Martin. After a brief mound visit and a couple of warm-up pitches, Dickey was able to continue. He described the injury to reporters by stating:
