Terrell Owens To The Bengals? Reports Say Talks Are Picking Up Steam

Old AccountJul 24, 2010

As NFL training camps begin in less than a week, the talk around the league has been free agent wide receiver Terrell Owens.

After being notified in the early months of 2010 that he would not be returning to Buffalo, Owens has faced constant rumors since then.

Virtually every NFL team has either been linked to Owens, or was evaluated as a potential suitor for number eighty one.

However, as we expected, training camp is around the corner, and Terrell Owens is expected to find a new team.

This time, it is one of the teams that were the early favorites for his services back in March, the Cincinnati Bengals.

TMZ.com was cited as the first source to say that the Bengals are showing more interest in Owens than in recent months.

Today, it can be confirmed that there is interest. As ESPN Insider Adam Schefter reported, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer was seen practicing with Owens, and said he was impressed with what he saw.

Receiver Chad Ochocinco has been wanting Owens in a Bengals uniform for a few months now. It is also reported that Ochocinco believes the front office is close to a deal with T.O.

The reason? At first, it is a head scratching move. With the upgrades through the draft and free agency, why would the Bengals bring in a 36 year old receiver?

According to ESPN's Chris Mortenson, Antonio Bryant is not near the form the Bengals expected him to be. Bryant had a procedure done on his knee in the off season, and apparently it is still bothering him.

With their top asset in free agency not near full strength, the move does make sense for Cincinnati.

Whether Owens can repeat a performance like he did in Buffalo, which was controversial-free, remains to be seen.
