7-22-10 Z-Cap: Mets Offensive Woes Continue
Hiroki Kuroda and Hong-Chih Kuo combined to allow just 5 hits as the L.A. Dodgers defeated the New York Mets 2-0, winning game 1 of this 4 game series in the process. The Mets were shut out for the 4th time in their last 11 games, and are now just 1-7 on their current 10 game West Coast road trip. With both Atlanta and Philadelphia winning the Mets are now in sole possession of 3rd place, 7 1/2 games behind the division leading Braves in the NL East. New York extended their scoreless streak to 17 innings (last 8 vs. Arizona) and have now scored 4 or less runs in 13 straight games (1.61 runs/game). Once again manager Jerry Manuel had to answer questions about his teams offensive futility:
"Offensively we are still struggling. We still aren’t able to put anything together. Looks like w had a situation at 1st and 3rd, Josh who is usually a contact guy, he takes a nasty split for a called 3rd strike. That’s the way things are going for us right now. We gotta eventually at some point turn this around. We got to turn this around. We are not doing ourselves any good by playing close games and losing games. We have to find a way to turn it around. Somebody has to find a way to get hot and carry us there for a minute its just something that needs to happen.”
