Metszilla.comJul 22, 2010

The New York Mets lost 4-3 in 14 innings and were swept for only the second time this season by the lowly Arizona Diamondbacks who were 24 games under .500 before the Mets came to town.  The loss marked the 11th time this seasonNY have lost in walk-off fashion as the team dropped to 4-6 in extra inning games in the process.  They are now 1-6 on their current West Coast road trip and have won 3 of their last 14 games.  The offense continues to struggle as the team has now scored 4 or less runs in 12 straight games and were held scoreless by an Arizona bullpen that ranks dead last in MLB with an ERA of 6.71.  Five Arizona relievers combined to pitch 8 innings, allowing just 1 hit, while striking out 8 batters.  Blaine Boyer (2-2) picked up the win pitching 2 perfect innings of relief.  Manager Jerry Manuel commented on his team offensive struggles:

"

Every time you don’t get a hit you try to make up for it twice as much the second time. I’m just going through, pretty much a rough few months. I haven’t felt comfortable in trying anything I can to just get in there and hit.”

Dan Haren (6 IP, 3 ER, 8 K) and Jonathan Niese (5 IP, 3 ER, 6 K) combined to allow 5 solo home runs as neither pitcher factored in the decision. In the bottom of the 5th inning,...TO READ THE REST OF THIS POST AND OTHERS LIKE IT HEAD TO METSZILLA.COM BY CLICKING HERE:
