Market Watch: Myers and Lilly
Two of the more talked about deadline deal candidates squared off on Wednesday afternoon and both made their current teams smile. As we mentioned in recent posts, the Mets have been linked to both Brett Myers (click to read our “Around the Web” post) and Ted Lilly (click to read about our take on Lilly) with the hopes of bolstering their starting rotation.
Based on their performances this afternoon both look like sure upgrades to a Met’s staff that could certainly use a shot in the arm, at least on the days that Johan Santana, Jonathon Niese, and R.A. Dickey don’t pitch. Unfortunately for New York, the Astros and Cubs have played the market like an Enron executive as the value of their commodities has reached an all time high. While Neither pitcher got the win on Wednesday, I’d say the front office of both teams consider the starts a victory of sorts:
