Hold Out Over? Tennessee Titans Chris Johnson Agree In Principle

John DoublinJul 19, 2010

A potential sigh of relief in Tennessee.

Running back extraordinaire Chris Johnson and the Tennessee Titans have reportedly agreed in principle to a deal that would give Johnson a raise and keep him with the team.

According to ProFootballTalk on NBCSports.com , Johnson and the Titans have struck a deal that would not extend the length of his contract, but would accelerate some of the incentives in Johnson's current contract.

The 2,000 yard rusher made it clear that he didn't wish to play for $550,000 in 2010. This agreement, the details of which have not been disclosed, means he won't have to.

The financial aspect of this is only part of the story.

The Titans and their fans can relax knowing that the team will not start the season with an unproven runner behind quarterback Vince Young. The team currently has fifth-year player Alvin Pearman, second-year man Javon Ringer, and rookies LeGarrette Blount and Stephon Johnson on the roster.

This development not only gives the Titans and their fans a reprive from worry, but it also forces their opponents to gameplan for a Titan team that will be much tougher with "CJ2K" in the lineup, than they are without.

Titan fans need to hold their breath for just a bit longer as the deal is not yet finalized or signed. Until it is, there is a chance that it could fall through.
